Hard to find RE-11 sizes
 

I've started tire shopping for this season and no one but Tire Rack seems to have RE-11s in 265/35R19, or 285/35R19 anymore. Bridgestone has taken them out of their spec grid too...

I was planning on running 265/35R19 and 305/30R19 again this year but so far no luck finding the right rubber for the front. Have these sizes been discontinued? Am I going to end up with old tires if I order from Tire Rack? Am I reading too much into the specs being absent from Bridgestone's site?

Sig11'the 305/30's are shorter than 285/35's does it mess up speed in mph on the highway?

Read in another post that it throws the speedo off by about 4%

If you are going to do a 305/30R19 rear I would do the 275/35R19 front, fitment isn't a problem although the tire installers hate installing these, especially on the front stock rims (they're a bitch and not because of the size).

Tire rack doesn't sell old tires - this is an issue you run into with retailers. If TR has stock that is more than 1-2 years old they blow it out at 1/3rd price and advertise it as such.

I wish they would give me some old race tires for 1/3 the price...

I bought some V710's on clearance for $92 but they were an old ball size. Occasionally you can find people in the various forums selling racing scrubs for $50-$80 each.

Problem is most racing scrubs are not worth it at this point with shops charging $20-30 for mounting. Back when I was running RA1s, they were $60 a pop and it would last six months to almost a full year. Now the A6s, R6s, V710s, R888 last no more than two months before you have to get replacement, it's crazy. I know Toyo re-released the RA1, but someone had said those are actually based on the R888 compound. If that is the case, I refuse to get them as the R888 is one of the worst tire I have owned.

My speedometer is 2mph fast at 68 according to my GPS.

I was going with the 265/35 because they only seem to have 275/30s which makes the fronts a good bit shorter than stock and the rear tires (25.6" vs 26.8"!) I guess I'm just not sure when that ratio becomes an issue but I would love to have that extra rubber in the front...

Potentially I guess it could make the traction control more twitchy but on track that is typically off so it doesn't matter. Haven't given me any trouble on the street.

I get my race tires mounted for 10 bucks each if I bring them in loose which helps a lot.

The new RA-1 has the same basic specs as the R888 so I wouldn't be surprised that they are the same compound. I prefer the Nitto NT01 over the RA-1 and the R888 in the dry, but they can't be street driven as they are noisy as heck.

Good point. I guess I'll go with 275/30R19 & 305/35R19's then. Now to find someone to repair my Volks. :)

How is the new spec different than the old spec? What are you seeing that is different?

Can NT01s be consistent all the way down to cords? I love RA1s because you can drive them till they cord. R888 lose most of their traction within the first month. I have a theory that NT-01 is based on the R888 while the Nitto NT555RII is based on the RA1. Does that sound right?

The shops here are annoying about mounting tires, it has to be purchased from them blah blah blah. The cost of mounting is out of control, makes me want to buy my own machine sometimes.

There is no 305/35, only 305/30.

265/35/19F and 285/35/19 is within .5mph of the speedo, more accurate than the stock tires
