Swap TPMS from stock 18's to stock 19" Rays
Folks, I have searched threads but cant seem to find a definitive answer.
I have 2009 base model with 18" wheels I just bought set of used 19" OEM Rays, from a 2009 sport model Question is - can i take my original TPMS from my base 18's and use them on the 19" Rays? Will i have to reset or reprogram TPMS make them work, or should they just work as is? |

It seems to depend on how long they are off the car, or could be a distance thing idk. When I put my factory rims back on the light is still lit and needs to be reset. I'd just plan for them to have to be reset

I had this issue a few days ago. But on mine, I had 19 Rays and switched my stock tires and TPMS to a Nismo and everything worked fine since my front PSI was still 35 and rear were 30. On yours since your coming from 18s to 19s, you have to have the TPMS resetted since you are going for different tire size. And dont go to the dealership, they charge at least $400 for dismounting the wheels, dismounting the tires, removing the TPMS, resetting the TPMS, remounting the tires and remounting the whole wheels. Then they'll tell you you might need an alignment.

You SHOULD NOT have to have the TPMS reset. They are just pressure monitors. Nothing else. The monitors are mated to your car, so the wheels shouldn't matter.
If you were going to a different car, then yes, they would need resetting. |

Example, if he has 18s right now, and the tire size is 18/245/40 with TPMS checking PSI being in 40lb area, your telling me that when moving the TPMS to a 19s which will be 19/255/35, TPMS will not trigger that the tire is below 40lbs?

I've seen some TPMS go for under $100 on here, which I think would be cheaper than having your tires unmounted and then re-mounted, and save you the pain in the arse of doing it every season. Might be worth posting up in the 'wanted' section and see if you can get a set on here cheap. I forgot to mention when you came by, you might want to throw a nice coat of Wheel Wax on those Ray's to give them some protection from scratches and keep them looking nice and glossy. thanks Adam,
only thing with getting new tpms is it would have to be reprogrammed also, but if price is right may be worth it From everything ive read, seems that reusing original tpms from my 18's may be best route, i wont be taking them off again, so no need to do it every season, guess ill need to weigh which option is best and least amount of hassle, just want to get it done quick so car is ready to be on the road soon with my nice new powder coated RAYS Quote:
