18x8, 18x9 wheels good enough for track/drifting?

I have 18" winter wheels that I'm contemplating using for drifting and tracking instead of the 19" Rays for sake of saving money on tire expenses.
They are 18x8, and 18x9. I've googled the widest tires for these and the general consensus seems to be 245/35 and 265/35. Is that good enough or too thin?
I have 20mm/25mm spacers if that helps

its fine, you just wont have as much grip as people with bigger tires

buy my race rims and tires $900 bux.....they are 18x9.5

Drifting or tracking? I'd definitely go with a square setup for the track-- heck, I'd probably run a square setup for drifting as well. The car will plow like a mother with 8's up front.
