Drag radials for stock sports wheels?

Hey fellas, just searched around a bit and was not able to find anyone who makes drag radials for 19's. Is there any dr's that will fit on the stock 19's? BTW I'm running 20mm spacers with the sports wheels and look to drag the car every weekend or so.

Any help with tire brand and sizes would help me alot.. Thanks in advance..

Blue370tt 03-25-2011 05:37 PM

I am curious too......I couldnt find any either so I went with Advan Neovas (closest extreme summer tire to a DR).

Nitto makes the NT05R drag radial in 19" but not in a size that would fit the Z sport wheels.

Your best bet would be to get a set of 18s for track use... You have a lot more options in that size.

I googled this and that's what I found also. Supposedly on the Vette forums they said that Nitto would be making sizes for the 19s and 20s .... But I can't seem to find a source that sells them.. Anyone else care to chime in?

What about the stock infiniti double spoke G35 wheels. Will that work? What size tire will do if I run that setup with my 20mm spacer and keep the fronts the stock 19 sports just for the track ?

Those G35 wheels are still 19". Those won't work.

If you have a Base model, I'd suggest finding some 17" wheels. If you have sport brakes, I just bought a set of 18" x 10" Saleen replica wheels. You can find them brand new for about $150/wheel.

Are they forged? My buddy has an '01 vette. We're talking about getting a set of slicks for his stock rears if those will work

I came in here to post that.

If it's just for drag, and you're buying a specific set for dragging, you might even consider snagging a wide set of 16's or 17's for the rear.

I'm not sure what you are referring too. The stock 18s and the Saleen replica wheels are not forged. They are also a different bolt pattern than what's used on a Corvette, so they wont fit on a Corvette.

I'm only looking to get a pair for the rears. I have a base with sports package so what's the smallest or should I say best fit rim for the rear a 16,17 or 18 inch wheel? Of course I want the beefiest tire on there but I want no fitment.

Guys please help me out.... Is the 17 the smallest I can go? And what's the widest/best option for the rear while running the stock 19 inch fronts..

Slick/DRs sizes too would help... Thanks +rep for those who help!

With the sport brakes, the smallest diameter wheel you can fit is an 18" wheel. Ideally, you want to be wider than the front. I will be running a 275/35/18 BFG drag radial on 18"x10" +22 wheels. You can get away with using an 18"x8" wheel with a 245/45/18 drag radial if you are staying NA. You can go as wide as a 315mm wide tire in the rear pending you use a 18"x10" or 18"x11" wheel with the correct offset.

Even on the back?

I think it will also depend on the specific wheels you are looking at.

Zat_Zuma 04-06-2011 05:58 PM

I'll be using a Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II, 305/35/18 on a 10" +27 offset rim.

Let you know how it works out this summer

Awesome tires! I couldn't pass up the deal on the tires I got, otherwise I would have loved me some MTs.

JC671 04-10-2011 10:31 PM

So will these fit?

As stated my buddy is going to sell me his rears from his '01 Vette (non Z06). Does the bolt pattern of these will wheels match up with the Z?

The size that it says is: 18x9.5 with an offset of 65mm.

Will I need to keep my 20mm space on to run this or can I run it without the spacer? Please let me know before I buy some tires.

chuckd05 04-10-2011 10:48 PM

Don't know what vette lug pattern is but I'll google it now

We're 5x114.3

chuckd05 04-10-2011 10:49 PM

Won't fit. He's 5x120.6

As I said before, they will not work. Corvettes have different bold pattern than we do. I believe they are 5x120. We are 5x114.3.

Will the 305/35/19 Drag Radial fit on the back of the Z? I know we would prefer a 30 series sidewall, but someone has to try it. Tire diameter is 27.40 in so that's almost a full inch in diameter larger than a Bridgestone RE-11 305-30/19.

^^^^^X2....I would like to know this as well.

Brazilbro 04-30-2011 09:55 PM

I was getting ready to order some hoosier A6s. What would be stickier theses or the hoosiers?

This seems like it will work....the minimum wheel width is. 10"

JC671 05-01-2011 05:56 PM

Hmmm

I wish I saw these earlier... I got the same thing ET street radials II but on an 18 inch rim... 305/35/R18... Just waiting for the rims to arrive in for it...

I prefer to have them on a pure track rim ad they are not cheap and will run down quick on a daily driver.

[QUOTE= I will be running a 275/35/18 BFG drag radial on 18"x10" +22 wheels.QUOTE]

Been researching this subject myself.
Who makes these wheels ???
18"x10" +22

Tire size recommendation?

I have the sport brakes, stock suspension and am running the HR 20mm spacers with the long lugs...which I would like to keep if possible.

Do you perceive any fitment issues ?

Thanks,
Bob

Looking to do the same ... what are these 18" rims you've mentioned ?

Thanks,

The sidewall is all ... Higher profile tires flex more (wrinkle) and give that straight line traction needed for hooking up in drag racing.

BuckBarley 12-19-2013 01:42 PM

Wow. Thread resurrection.

Mickey Thompson DR II drag radials:

Just went with the 19" M/T Radials on the stock sports wheels (rays) ...
Fits nice even with 20mm spacers.

The car hooks better and doesn't hop like the Michelin PS II's that were on it before.

Gotta play with the air pressure some more ... left off at 22 lbs but need to go even lower... next time out starting at 18 lbs.

You will be lighting up that TP warning light.

Bob

What was your 60' and launch RPM? It's good to know wheel hop was reduced, but was it eliminated?

My 60' was 2.002 - not impressive - but it will get better with more practice.

Left the line at about 3500 rpm on cold tires and a slightly slipping clutch.

Just put in the GTM Race Logic traction control so I was also experimenting with this too...(jury is still out on how beneficial it is for drag racing)

Had the GTM Race Logic set at 10% slippage which was too low...it did keep the car straight with no wheel hop but cut out the injectors too soon and lost momentum.

It did give me a good 2nd gear tho'.

I mainly attribute the change to the Mickey Thompson DR II's for eliminating the wheel hop.
(The Michelin PS2's in 40 degree weather were jumping all over the place and just didn't work).

Ran 12.4 @ 116 mph

I am now in the process of having a line lock installed and also will be fully disabling the VDC and ABLS - this will allow me to do a proper burn out - and nice'n toasty tires.

Eventually shooting for 1.8 or (even) 1.7 60' - and hopefully in to the 11's

Researching Traction Bars as well as a further remedy for the IRS...

Wish me luck next season !

Bob
