Check your tire pressures

I picked up a new 2011 Nismo last Thursday and I went over the car this weekend to make sure there were no issues. When I checked the tire pressures, I found they were all at 55psi so I set them all to 35psi cold as called out on the door jam. The ride is much smoother and a little less noisy now.

I called the dealers service department today to ask what the heck was up with the high pressures and he said they are over inflated for shipping and they forgot to set them back to normal pressures before I picked it up........hmmm....seems strange. Anyone had their Z delivered with extremely high tire pressure?

The pressure in my new car's tires was supposed to be 30psi cold front/rear. When driving, they got up to 40+psi. I need to check them cold, but I am betting they are 5psi high. Even 2-3psi is VERY noticeable. ALWAYS check pressure.

Dealer thought the tires were all donuts.

Check your donut psi... might be 110psi

This has how cars have been shipped for years. It's not abnormal for them to be overinflated. The fact that they forgot to lower the pressures is annoying at worst. Not a real big issue.

dont forget to look for the spring spacers too

if you dont burst your tires while driving home getting into an accident. imho, this is a safety issue. not as bad as under-inflated tires, but still, tires are not to be driven at those psi.


although hyper-milers use excessive high psi for their coasting...

let's shut the engine off and coast all the way down the hill... smash!.. opps, steering locked. now can't start the car due to IPDM issue...

I drove off the lot with one tire pressurized around 75 PSI. Got about halfway home (~10 mi) before vibration started and steadily increased. By the time I detoured to my friend's house nearby, the rear driver tire had a bulge on the inside sidewall about the size of a football (will upload pic when I get home - added, see below). Put on the spare and drove it back to the dealership. They got me fixed up and on my way, but seriously, wtf...

So I called my mechanic friend who helped me out with the tire on my way home after picking up the car about a month ago. He reminded me we let quite a bit of air out before even checking the pressure (which measured over 70 psi). I was taking pictures when the thing started making noises so we hustled to deflate it a bit.



I note that while there is a TPMS, it detects underinflated tires only. Why not have a PSI range with alerts when pressure strays beyond? I can't imagine having to deal everything that might have happen if the tire had blown

My only question is: Why? I get the 45 to 50 PSI for transport, you don't want flat spots during the couple weeks the car sits on a boat, but why would the dealer inflate a tire to 75 PSI? I hope they got you a new tire and not just deflated it for you...

I had already called my sales guy and told him to have the tech aware of my situation. Since I refused to put a dirty a$$ tire in the back of my brand new Z, I left it at my friends house. When I got to the dealership, they gave me back the loaner Z to go pick up the dirty tire lol. When I got back, I had to wait about 15 min for my car - they had some trouble finding another sports package rim to put on my car.

The first thing the service manager said when I walked in the door was "Have you called the tire manufacturer?" I wanted to punch him in the nutz, but to that point my experience had been very pleasant so I just assumed he was joking. They gave me a new rim and tire without any hassles.
