Need some tire advice?
I've been looking through as many threads as possible about what people are running for tires, but I just can't decide on what sizes to get. I plan on picking up some RE-11's though...
My wheel setup will be: Volk TE-37SL Wheels 19x9.5 +22 Front 19x10.5 +12 Rear (I'm lowered on Swift Springs already) So initially I was thinking the following tire sizes staying conservative as I dont want to run into rubbing issues and what not: 245-40R19 Front 285-35R19 Rear ^This is the same size wheels and tires of the Nismo... which is why I figured it'd be fine. But would I be better off going at least one size wider in the front for less tire stretch? My only concern with this is I then have to go with smaller side walls to get the desired widths. 255-35R19 Front 285-30R19 Rear ^ The overall tire diameters are then smaller and I imagine it will throw the speedo off. Any input would be much appreciated as I plan to order tires tomorrow:tiphat:! I like this setup, but I didnt find exact specs on it. Maybe 265F/305R? 265/35/19 in the F and 285/35/19 in the R?

You will be fine. I actualy went with 295/30/19 in the rear and my speedo is only off by 4mph.

Check out my gallery. I have the same specs in wheels with 265 F 305 R and I'm lowered on H&R. No rubbing at all.

Ok thanks guys... in regards to the sidewall dimensions, should I do a 35 front and 30 rear? or should I match them at 35 front 35 rear?

Do 35 front 30 rear. This is what I have along with most here. I have the same size and offset as you. But I'm lower than what Swifts springs are. I don't rub really. But if there is a hard dip it will.

my speedo is spot on with 265 35 and 285 35 19 re11, even better than stock.
i can tell you this. if you dont race your car, 285 re11 will give you plenty of grip. anything bigger will just create more friction and adds understeer to the car. |

Ok thanks again guys. I really appreciate the input... so I think I'm just going to go with the following (again staying more conservative):
255-40R19 Front 285-35R19 Rear My wheel sizes fall perfectly within those tires "rim width" ranges, and the sidewalls will be very close to stock. |

The stagger tire is purely for looks on the 370Z, it adds no performance edge to most cars. If anything, it hurts it. Try racing at the track with 4 265 or 285 vs. 2 255 and 2 305, you will know what I am talking about. |

Oh and does anyone have any experience with the Potenza RE050A Pole Position tires?
I dont necessarily need the RE-11's per say as the Pole Position tires seem to offer about the same performance, but they cost a few bucks less and they're in a closer warehouse to me. They are on a closeout special at tirerack. Should I stay away from these? (I guess they're being discontinued) |

I replaced my factory RE050a with the RE11 at 800 miles. The difference is night and day as far as grip level. As a bonus, the RE11 is a lot more quiet and have a much nicer ride. Outside of the couple dollars you save, I don't see any benefits with the RE050a.
For what you are doing, RE11 is plenty for you. The 265 fits great on my 9" front and 285 looks good on my 10" rear. I do plan to go with 285 on the 9" next week when my RE11 arrives. Also from experience, you can probably get slightly more life out of the RE11 than the RE050a. I just want you to be aware, this is a 10-15K tire. |
