20 inch VS 19 inch.
I tried doing a few searches for a similar topic and came up dry, so pardon me if this is a repeat, but I need to get some info soonish as I plan to order the wheels here in a few weeks.
Im getting a 2011 Base + Sport from Lou Fusz next month when I get home from A-stan, and the first mod I wanted to do was some custom wheels, I just dont like the sport wheels at all. Ive narrowed it down to Advan RS-D, and Volk VR-G2 (the version with the lip), and I just need to decide on sizing. Im going to do 9.0 front and 10.0 rear, but I havent decided on 19 or 20. What I need to know is, what are the arguments for each size? Obviously the car is calibrated for a 19 inch wheel, so thats a plus in that direction, as well as price. Is there any real performance related reasons to choose one or the other? Thanks in advance guys. |

depends what your goal for the car is
20 inch wheels will be heavier and more showy... 19 inch weheels will be more functional and lighter (good if you ever plan on tracking). although even 19's are considered big on a track. |

I don't like the look of 20's on our car. imo it's too much wheel, not enough tire, but individual tastes may vary.
In general, the 19's will be better for performance, if only because they are generally lighter. I've even heard that some guys who track the car buy lightweight 18's for the weight savings. |

It will really come down to your tastes!
20's fill in our enormous wheel wells... trust me I have 20 x 12 +0 on 305 series tires. 19's are great as they are typically a pound or two lighter. Other than looks and weight one is not necessarily better than the other. I will say 20's will be a slightly stiffer ride quality and you will have more feedback in your steering wheel (I like that aspect of the 20's) However I have found a compromise between the two sizes. I went with Strasse Forged 20" step lip giving me wheels that are super light while giving me the looks of 20's: The nice thing about 3 piece wheels is that you can do any combination you want!!! You get to design your own wheel! We can help you with offsets, tires and even color choices!

Brandon aka Metz bought a set of 20" CF mesh wheels and he loves them!
We were able to get him a 4" lip up front and a 6" lip in rear!!!

The price is dependent on what you want done PM me for special pricing. These are made 100% in the USA. These wheels are the exact same quality and performance you would expect from the big names like HRE. However I am not charging the big name $$$... Give me a pm and I can fill you in on all the details.

^Yeah they do! I personally prefer 19s as they offer the best balance between weight and the tire sidewalls they require. The larger the wheel, the thinner the tire sidewall which means less give in the tire. Also, tires for 20 inch wheels can be significantly more expensive with fewer size options.

20"s look great on a 370...such large wheel wells. Will the Z be your DD, track, or weekend car?
A quality set of 20" rims is gonna run you around $900-$1000 a piece at least if they have good offsets and rim width(10-11" front 11-13" rear). Just be sure you can afford new tires when the time comes...youll be replacing tires faster then you think. 305/30/20's are pretty damn expensive. I wouldnt go any lower on the tire profile you want to protect those rims from potholes etc. Last edited by Zerafian; 03-19-2011 at 02:59 PM. |
