Finally Decided on Wheels/Tires

I decided on Axis Angles. 20X10 Rear and 20X9 Front. I went with Matte Silver, because it was in stock and I can always powder coat later if I want the Matte Black. This will be my fourth set of Axis wheels and I have come to expect outstanding value from them. These are some of the best priced wheels out there, they are light weight (especially for the size), good looking and will last. Mounted pics will probably come some time next week.:eekdance:

For the tires I chose something that I'm sure quite a few of you will flame me for. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus.

I'm running 255/35/ZR20 Front and 285/30/ZR20 Rear.
The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus isn't a summer tire, and it's not the most high performance tire out there. It is, however, a light weight tire, with excellent grip and UNSURPASSED tread life. I've got 10k miles and my Advans are toast. I don't expect to change these tires nearly as often, in fact they should last almost 3 times as long. The increased width should more than compensate for the lesser grip, especially when compared to the relatively narrow 245 that I have on the rear now.

Cannot wait for pictures, I was looking at these but not really sure.

20's wow, that's pretty pimpin'.

Given the added width I think you will have more grip than you had before even though these tires aren't the stickiest. They are really low profile though so you'll probably feel the bumps a lot more.

Are you going to use these as your auto-x tire or are you doing something different for that?

JoeyD,

I am happy you found your choice of rims! I love the Rays, but when more 370s hit the road they will start to look commonplace. Looking forward to some pics!

As of right now, I haven't completely made up my mind. I'm leaning toward running Hoosiers on the stock 18's. I think the added grip will make up for the lack of a Limited Slip. Later on down the road (like when I scrape together enough money for lots of mods) I'm going to step out of B Stock and in to Street Touring Ultra. I think I may go with an AP Racing brake setup so I can still continue to use the stock 18's. It's all up in the air right now, until I can get some slicks on the 18's the 20's will be my autocross wheel.

Thanks Jim, and again thanks for all the help along the way. Ultimately, price and some measure of uniqueness made up my mind. I agree that over time the stockers will begin to look commonplace.

Good choice JoeyD!

Actually as an all around tire I think they are a perfect choice. Outstanding wet performance and very predictable solid dry performance. You should get some decent mileage out of them too as long as you don't auto-x them for too long.

Cool cool. I'm eager to see what you do as far as offset goes. I still don't know what is going to look flush on the Z.

They had a small picture on the AXIS front page of a 370Z.

Yeah that pic has been up before. Funny thing that the wheels on this car are only on the passenger side. They only had one of each wheel at the time.

Looking forward to some pics since I have the same color as you.

Congrats! I think they'll look awesome! Don't forget to share some pictures with us. :pics:

Nice choice, I wish they made 19's, I don't want to go with 20's. Plus I want a 10.5 to 11 rear wheel, a 305/30/19 would fit nicely on that width.

Looking forward to pics thought.

Personally I think it's over kill for 20's on a Z.
