Rear wheel peeling........
I have the sport package wheels and one of my rear wheels is peeling some sort of clear cloat.
Will my bumper to bumper warranty cover this? http://img860.imageshack.us/img860/8871/photo1s.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/8339/photo3db.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/6649/photo4mk.jpg http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/3721/photo5fz.jpg |
Unless you hit something it should be covered... Bring it to dealer ASAP.
|
wash it with a soft brush (soap/water) and see if it's just release oil from the mold or not.
|
I'd leave it alone and go straight to the dealer. Play dumb, you have no idea what's going on, you've never been to an automatic car wash, never used any abrasive wheel cleaners. Just way "i wash the car myself with soap and water and look at this..."
If the dealer won't cover it, just find a wheel refinishing place that can powdercoat them again for ~$90-130/wheel. Not a huge deal for one rim. |
:o sorry, i thought i read your tires appeared to be peeling (not your wheels). my bad, definitely take it to the dealership. :ugh2:

I've seen this happen it the wheel gets a knick in it or from when installing new tires. The machine doesn't damage the wheel but the force on the insulation of the tire machine would peel the clear on the outer edges. Did this on my new wheels also. Wasn't a big deal for me.
|
Do you have any pictures of the peeling? I'm just curious to see what it looks like. As the others stated, take it to the dealer and don't mention using any wheel cleaners.
|
I personally don't have pics for myself. But I can't even tell where it was slightly shaved off now. That's on my after market wheels.
|
I'm going to take it in today. I'll snap some pictures.
I'm kind of worried because my Nissan dealership is kinda unprofessional. They don't seem like they enjoy what their doing. |
In for pics.

looks like your wheel was repaired at one time... (?)

A blue dot where?

yah, it marks the heavy (or light) point of the wheel so that they can match mount the tires (minimze weights).
|
I just asked the previous owner if the wheels were ever damaged and he said no.
|
Replacing the wheel no questions asked.
I told her I waxed the wheels and she said not to do that. Lol noob. |
Definitely wax the wheels, helps keep the brake dust off. I don't think a defect like that can really happen on a forged wheel so I would remain suspicious about what the previous owner did.
|
So they are replacing the wheel? No charge?

I've never taken any car in for a repair under warranty, so I could be confused on how its going to work. We never discussed pricing which also leads me to believe its being repaired under warranty. |
Definitely a warranty issues. Wow, that looks terrible.
Wax didn't cause that, but given dealer excuses for all types of mechanical failures... I'd say that's par for the course. Let us know how it turns out. |

Very interested to hear if they take proper care of you, because that wheel looks horrendous. Signing for $0.00 is def a good sign though. What did they say when they took a look at it?

better to be at the counter than under your hood... lol
|
She called me today to let me know the wheel arrived and whenever I wanted to come in they would put it on for me.
:) If this ends up being as easy as it seems I may buy that extended warranty. |
Had the wheel put on today. No charge covered under warranty. They told me it was $1000 for that one wheel!
Thank god. |
Typical ripoff price. They're about 700 at courtesyparts.com
|
I discovered I have exactly the same problem..and I bought mine new and always used ordinary car soap on it.. I am seeing the dealer tomorrow... I am a bit nervous in that another poster said Nissan blamed him for using harsh cleaners.. and he denies that as to I.. we shall see!!

Fantastic! See...you were sweatin' over nothing!

ur lucky your wheels didnt have curb marks because i can see them using that as an excuse. Either-way, great job.
Also incase others arent as lucky, if your wheels simply show paint/cosmetic damage, a wheel shop usually charges $50-$100 per wheel to refinish them like new... so a new wheel isnt needed unless its damaged structure wise. glad Nissan covered it. I had a tear on my door panel on the very top and i know it was caused by the window tint guy but played stupid when i went to nissan and they covered it under warranty as defect....BEST PART, I kept the $450 the shop issued me to cover damage :) |
