Need Advice
 

Well i went to put my stock summers back on today everythings going well get 3 out of 4 tires on, pick up the fourth and its flat. filled it to see if i could find a leak. I found a nail in between two tread blocks. :mad:

the day i bought the car it was in the gallery showroom i never drove it till they put my winter rims and tires on. i went back with the tire today and they said nothing could be done until Monday and that they would plug it on Monday. I think they should replace the tire completely theres not even a slight chance i put the nail in it i never moved the car till the winters were on but there stuck on just simply plugging it.

so my question do i continue to push for the new tire or should i accept the plug? Im just looking for outside on the situation

Mine has a plug. As long as it is plugged and patched from the inside, it is good....

Depending on where the puncture is a plug is completely fine. If its on the outside of the tread pattern (like where the tire sizing info is) it cannot be plugged safely. If it's on the tread itself you have nothing to worry about.

Normally it is considered to void the speed rating, but as long as you aren't breaking the law or hitting the track/dragstrip, you should be fine.

Eh I would disagree... I would not settle for a plug. I would never feel 100% confident driving with a plug in the tire. If you can, try and get a new tire if what your saying is true.

I wouldn't go past 80 with a plug.

I know a good patch will hold. I just think the dealership is cheaping out when they say they'll plug it. that tells me there willing to sell a new car with a plugged tire which imo is not acceptable. I think I've got a good leg up with the fact i put 0.0 miles on those tires they were on the showroom floor only i got in it once the winters were on. so somewhere between the showroom and there garage or when some one test drove it (had 18 miles on it) they picked up a nail

i measured its about a quarter inch in from edge of the tire im gonna take it to a tire repair place by me and see if it even is fixable

For street I've had sucess with both patch and plugs. If its a small nail I would just plug it from the outside using ample rubber cement. But 1/4" is too close to the sidewall. Also talk to your insurance if you have low deductable. These tires run $300 a pop + mount balance.

Make absolutely sure the tireshop you take to can remove and mount without scrathing the wheels.
