Glad I found this thread. I didn't realize until after the dealer said they broke a locking lug when they took off my wheel (One wheel had curb rash when I bought the car and they replaced it). So they replaced the one with a stock lug. Then I came here and found the issue. Today I had them replace the rest of the 3.

They had no idea that there were 370's out there with incorrect lugs on them. Then a tech came by and he knew about the problem. Luckily only 1 out of the 4 broke when taking off.

I had one of my locking lugs break just like this. Tires were being replaced by an installer that I've known and trusted for 20 yrs. I called to check on the progress and was told that one nut had broken and there was another that had a slight rust ring @ the top 3rd of its shaft (looks exaclty like the broken one in the photo). Drove to the Nissan dealer in Greenville for replacements and was given a set that was shouldered (bell-shaped flange). These were $55 and the service manager tried to deny that the factory ones are defective. What a piece of work this woman is. At least the defective ones are replaced w/ the correct ones now. I'd hate to have to deal w/ this on the side of the road.

I'm having the same issue...turns out the dealer in Atlanta where I flew to get the car installed the locks for the 350z. My local tire guy WHO I TRUST COMPLETELY tried to balance the tire and broke the first one he tried to take off. Then, he took the others off and they were full of rust. I called the local Nissan dealer this morning and was told that Nissan won't do anything about this since it wasn't factory installed and was an option and that the rust could have been caused by road conditions. GET REAL PEOPLE!! My car has just over 6k miles on it and had NEVER even been in the snow!

add me to the list. non sport 18" roadster wheels...

went to the dealer before i was pointed the direction of this thread. they ordered me a new set, but now im wondering if they ordered the wrong ones. im gonna see their attitude when i try to "fill them in" on this because i know for a fact they have no idea.

they felt like they were on there hand tight. one broke as i just started tightening it. noticed the hairline crack on the other before i installed. the two on the front are on, but now that i know they arnt really doing anything, i think ill stop back by Nissan on the way home to get even two more regular standard lugs.. which the first two they removed from a 370 in stock because they had no lugs in stock at all. ugh..

What kind does Nissan use? I just bought McGards and they've been a-OK.

The 350 ones were a version of McGard, not sure what the 370 ones are.

Gents refer your Nissan dealer to the TSB issued in August 2009 it is listed in the service TSB section on this forum. Print out a copy and put it in the service Managers hand and if necessary the GM's hand and tell them to fix it. It is ridiculous that these dealers are still putting the wrong wheel locks on the vehicles.

+1!!! Mine look like yours! where it's all rusted on the inside :/ not to mention, they had already broken one lug before I took the car home but didn't notice it missing until I started working on my wheels (I should've checked better ) So, 1 lock was missing, the other 3 broke as I was MANUALLY putting them back on... wtf?... I'm totally calling them out tomorrow...

On my first 370, I had one lock break when I was putting on new tires. I called the sales manager that sold me the car and said you sold me the wrong wheel locks (they wouldn't include them in the deal). He basically told me to F off. A few months later I traded my 09 for a 10 ZR and did not go to the same dealership. Their loss. Needless to say I have the correct locks on my new Z!

Funny how their either too stupid or don't care enough to lose your business and possibly people you tell about this all over 100 or more bucks and a safety issue! So minor in the grand scheme of things to them to just pay attention and help out. But no. 10s of thousands of dollars lost.

Hey all, Today i got the exact same problem.. Picture on the first page looks identical to what happened to me. i have the 19" sport rims(brand new 370z got 100kms on it!!). It is also the rear passenger wheel. Sounds like it can be fixed even though the stud is gone
E-mailed my dealer, waiting for a response, sadly though where i bought the car i'm about 18 hours away.. and the next closest nissan dealership is 8 hours away

If the stud broke off that is an easy fix, they just bang it out and install a new stud. Sad that the dealerships are still installing the wrong locks! They are obviously not reading the TSB's. If you don't get immediate satisfaction call Nissan directly.
