Tpms

I ordered a set of USED rays sport package wheels that include the sensors. The dealership says that I will have to program the sensors on the sport package wheels to get them to work. They want 100 dollars to do that. Is this correct? I have my existing set of TPMS on my 18" base wheels as well. Can I not just bolt the rims up since they came off of a 370z?

i dont know about the cost but they will have to be programmed to your vehicle. otherwise imagine you were just driving down the road and your car would go nuts picking up just any person's TMPS sensors in their car.

You will be fine without your TPMS sensors setup... you just have to deal with a stupid little light. It shouldnt cost $100 to have them sync the stupid sensors to the car... this is literally like a half hour job taking your time. Try a different dealership or a shop like NTB or something they may be able to do it there as well and it would be ALOT cheaper!

kenchan 01-05-2011 11:38 AM

unless you're anal i would just live with the light.

if you sync to your new wheels you will get a TPMS light when you revert back to your stock 18's. it appears the car can only store 4 sensors at a time.

:iagree: Yep, I currently swapped my RE-11's back to stock rims/tires and I have separate TPMS sensors for both and I'm dealing with that crappy little light being on.

I had my dealer reset them once and it was, in fact, about a 30 minute job but cost around $100 just like the OP stated. :ugh2:

Yeah it takes a little to calibrate them, and $100.00 sounds about right. They pretty much charge you a full hour of labor, plus something else I remember. Its horrible, but if your anal about that light, then its well worth the $100.00 I guess.

I think it was asked before but....there is no way to reset it yourself, correct? I think there is a tool you can purchase but otherwise.....no go, right?

kenchan 01-05-2011 11:53 AM

tirerack sells them but you have to know the sensor's ID BEFORE it's mounted inside the wheel/tire to sync them.

Gotcha. I can live with a little light on the dash until April. :icon17:

one thing sucks is that nissan only allows 4 sensor to be programmed, when I had my lexus I was able to program 8 sensors in total & when you swap set of wheels you can push a button to swap sensors that were programmed.

Yeah, I remember him buying something but I can't remember if this was the same thing. I may just deal with the light until April.
