Winter setup, will it fit?

Hi guys,

Apparently, I made the mistake to order the wrong winter tires for my rims, the guy whos doing the installation of the tires on the rims showed me that they don't fit :shakes head:.

He told me that I need to get 255/40 18" tires for my 18" rims because my 225/50 did not fit (Tires not wide enough for the rims).

My question is, if I fit 255/40 18" tires on ALL FOUR corners of the car, will I have problems with the front side of the car? will it clear the wheel well when turning, etc?

The rim is as follows: 8.5x18 ET35

I used the following calculators:

Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing
Wheel Size Calculator

Seems like tires of spec 235/50/18" would fit my 8.5" Rims.

The diameter difference compared to stock size is only 1.47%.

i run a 225/50/18 they fit fine. with a 8" wide rim,
stock 19 rays-275/35/19 - overall diameter - 26.6
225/50/18 - overall diamter - 26.9
That guy does not know what hes talking about lol. In my book a 225/50 is ment for a 7.5"-8.5" wheel. he probaly said this because he cant air them up, tell him to invest in a beed blaster.

Thanks for the answer.

Damn, this is weird. He said he tried his best but it was impossible to air them up enough because of the sheer size of the gap (1cm or so?).

But if you check on the calculator from 1010tires, they do mention that a 225/50 tire is meant for a 8" wide rim max and not 8.5" :(. What I find strange is that people here have managed to put the same spec tire on a 8.5" wide rim. Maybe some tires have different stiffness of sidewalls and flex differently.

This sux cause I'm going to have to find new rims to fit on my car and it's very difficult to do here in Europe. We already can't find winter tires available in Europe, they're all sold out.

Edit: I'll listen to you and first try to go to another garage and ask them if they can fit the tire on the 8.5" wide rims. Thanks again !
