I would pay in advance for the wheels and shipping and pay you for your time and effort. Just waiting on the call back, hope he still has them. |

Ok guys here is the deal, just got off the phone with the seller, hopefully someone (Phelan / OMG) can help me out.
The guy has had the rims up for sale since mid-october and hasn't sold them because he preferred to trade buy can't find what he wants so now is willing to sell. He is leaving tonight at midnight for a month out of town, so if at all humanly possible can I paypal someone the cash right now and they pickup the wheels tonight? I know it is asking a lot if someone would be willing I will add $100 for their time. The seller said the other option is he can leave them with his sister and someone can pick them up this week but that would be last resort because he'd prefer to have the cash before he leaves. If anyone can help out a fellow 370z'er it would be huge, seems like a great deal and I'd hate to pass it up.. |

so you will pay 2500 for them... then you pay 100 for someone to look at them... then you are going to pay, what... 200 for them to get shipped to you? back out... buy new. the little you are saving at this point is not worth the risk of multiple involved parties and potential shipping damage with second hand packing. considering they are not 100% original also with having been recoated, no stickers and wrong stems... possibly they were repaired from major damage... just my two cents. the guy is gonna take your 2500 and leave for a month... hopefully he drops the wheels off to his sister the day before hes leaving which is today... hopefully his sisters bf doesnt steal them or some other drama.... sounds too messy for me.

If it were me , I would want to see the wheels in person before picking them up no matter how good the deal sounds. If it means waiting another month, then so be it. At the very least, deal with the seller directly using Paypal or something that has a paper trail. Very difficult to trust Craigslist these days.

I figured for 2800$ I would get 4 Volks TE37 plus 2 brand new tires with zero mileage, so I save $1100 and get 2 tires. I'm not a cheap guy but that seemed pretty decent to me, assuming the rims were good condition. If the deal doesn't go thought I won't be heartbroken, will probably just move on a set of TE37SL's, but it seemed worth the trouble... |

It's a matter of being worth the hassle for someone wanting to do it but I could certainly understand it being viewed as a pain in the ***. |

ya you would save a grand or more... but the super laps are less expensive and they will be brand new and guarenteed mint and a reliable transaction.
here is what makes this very sketchy for me... 1: hes leaving tonight at midnight 2: you would have to pay him or someone RIGHT NOW wheels unseen by anyone for this to happen in time 3: Wheels are passing through too many hands 4: I dont personally trust anyone to inspect parts for me, im pickier than other people 5: you are burdening someone with the task of packing them and shipping them to you in canada, which is a pain in the ***... and just cause someone is a member on this forum doesnt offer any guarentee that you will ever see the wheels or they will pack them correctly or in a legit time frame. 6: they have been refinished, and you dont have enough time to have them REALLY inspected to make sure they werent totally trashed before the refinish, because hes leaving tonight. 7: I would never spent 3 grand in an emergency HAVE TO BUY TONIGHT kind of deal... too much pressure makes it too sketchy and uncomfortable. so... i mean, it could be the deal of a lifetime.. i just personally would pass on the transaction, i see amazing deals once a week.

I totally agree with what you are saying and understand your concerns.
The leaving tonight issue isn't that huge of a concern to me because he said he could still do the transaction, it would just have to be done through his sister instead since he would be out of town. I preferred to not deal with her and do it while he is still in town if possible. As for trusting a forum member, there are certain members who have established themselves as trustworthy and I feel are reliable. Finally I totally agree the packing is a pain in the ***, which is why I would be willing to pay them for their time, I feel $100 is reasonable for 1-2 hours work. Having said all this, like I said earlier, if this turns out to be too big a hassle, I will go with the TE37SL's. I don't want to cause everyone a pain in the ***, and wouldn't have even considered it had not 2 members offered to go check the wheels out for me.. Quote:

lastly... i would lose sleep until they got to me... worrying about how good the refinish turned out. I have had a lot of cars painted and a lot of things powdercoated and i have learned over the years what 90% of the world thinks looks like great paint/powdercoating, looks like complete *** to me. thats the last ill say about it.... of course the decision is yours and i shouldnt force my opinion on you... i just wouldnt want anyone to end up in the miserable situation i fear could happen.

I think I was getting too caught up in getting a good deal.
The great thing about winter rolling in here in under a month is I have plenty of time on my hands. I'll wait this out, when the guy returns if a forum member is willing to check them out and take pics I can make a decision at that point and maybe even negotiate on the price. If the deals falls through, it wasn't meant to be. I appreciate everyone's help on this one.... I guess that's the problem when you've had your eye on a set of wheels for a few months and are always checking craigslist, when a deal comes a long you get jumpy..... Big thanks to Phelan for getting back to me so quickly via PM and his willingness to help me out, also to OMG for offering to take a look at the wheels, also phunk for giving me a few pointers and making me consider other options.
