Default to powder coat or paint wheels?

Well I have a good buddy who offered to paint my wheels, he practically lives in a paint booth, but am wondering how durable it would be compared to powder coat.
I am really interested as I am trading him some items and he offered to hook up my two sets of wheels.
Now, what are those of you who are out there that know about wheel coatings think? Will it hold up to driving and some track use or would powder coating be a better option?
Thanks in advance

Just from what I've heard, one being my mechanic...powder coating last longer and dings and such aren't as obvious compared to paint. This is why I will be powder coating in the very near future Good luck with your choice..do it wisely...but I know a few people who have painted wheels and they have no complaints so far.

powdercoating will be more durable, but if you can get a deal, go for painted. Stormcrow had his painted rather than powdercoated.

Plus, your guy can probably paint them without dismounting the tires and that can save you another 100 or so.

If it's a forged wheel it's always best to paint, I had mine painted over two years and they look mint. I'm super-anal with my wheels though, LOL

What is the price difference between the two options?

if you paint with a rattle can it will only cost you like $30 for 3-4 cans.

My wheel painter normally charges $100/wheel and the quotes that I got from powdercoaters were a little bit less.

I wouldn't rattle can them, they look tacky and aren't as durable a finish.

Yeah it wouldn't be a rattle can job but more professional paint. Essentially painting is free as I worked out a deal, if I want to. But would be cheaper then goin to the local powder coaters. I am just up in the air now on color choices.
