Winter spacers - 25MM or 30MM?
 

I see everyone referencing the use of 25MM spacers to fix the "sunken" look of the rear wheels with a winter/snow setup.

I see that Ichiba offers 30MM spacers through a few preferred vendors. Why do people run 25MM? From pics, it looks like the 25MM looks a bit sunken still, i'm wondering if 30MM would make it look even closer to stock?

Not every "winter wheel" has the same offset, and that's what determines how big of a spacer you need to cure the sunken in look. Simply mount your wheel, take a ruler and measure how much space you have to the fender.... it's that simple. If someone already figured out the right spacer for the same offset wheel that you have, simply get the same one.

also remember that if you push your narrow snow tires to the fender arch it will look very werd from the back... like redneck TA's running sedan tires + spacers.

Also note that the more you space out your wheel the more stress on your bearings and the camber will suffer too. Too much is not always good. 25mm seems to be the limit for these reasons.

i'm considering doing bolt on spacers for winter, but honestly, safety comes first. for my winter setup, i wont sacrifice snow traction for any looks.

Another reason to keep your winter wheels somewhat sunken in is to keep all the crap you'll be driving through in winter (snow, salt, rocks from pot holes, you name it) in your wheel well and not sprayed out over the side of your car. I have the 25MM spacers for my winter set up and the wheels are still a little sunken in, but not too much. My set up: 18" TRMotorsports C2 (18 x 8.5) with Blizzak LM-25 (225/50R18)

Since you are in Boston, the condition of the roads are pretty attrocious. I would stay away from spacers for the reasons mentioned above and also because hitting a pot hole could be a non issue with a spacer-less setup but can spell disaster if you are running spacers as you are adding potential weak links into the area of the car that takes the most abuse.
