How to ship tires cheap?
How do you guys ship the tires without costing a fortune? I have bought a set of tires from a member here, shipping cost a lot more than we thought. About $130 from UPS. I like to know what low cost shipping methods you guys use.
If we have to meet half way, we each still need to drive 4 hours... I just want to lessen the hassle for both of us. Thanks. |

How are you packing the tires? When I buy off of Tire Rack, they usually just tape two tires together and slap a lable on it. It varies based on distance, but UPS ground was what I used and it was around $45 shipping for a pair of rear tires.

I shipped 4 tires from MA to NJ and it was just under $100 UPS ground. No packaging, and when I checked the prices you didn't save much money taping two tires together. Just slapped the label on the tire. Fedex pricing was about the same.

If you box it, the price will be a lot higher. Slap a label on it and send it ground.

Setup an online account with Fedex. This way you can print out the labels and drop them off. You can fudge the numbers a little bit to make it cheaper. I would not recommend going crazy but certain deminsions/weights are far cheaper. My friend and I do this all the time and never have any issues.

If you have a bus terminal nearby, it might be worth looking into Busfreighter.com.

Just tape them together and slap a label on each pair. Shouldn't cost more than $50 or so depending on insurance. |
