New Volk/RAYS Wheels

I caught this while looking at Speedhunters.

Back in March I posted this on the Sumo Power FIA GTR. At the end I mentioned that the center lock lock multi-fin wheels may be coming to the street wheel line up. A friend of mine recently confirmed it for me. Here is anothe pic of it (bottom left) at the R's meeting (GTR meeting) in Japan. Mackin should have a sample at SEMA:
http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...1/AY0F7402.jpg

There is also a nice shot of the TE37 SuperLap which I love. I think that will look hot on my car lol. I was told the SL will soon come in 19x12 with a super concave face for 370Z (rear) fitments too. Here's a close up of the color:
http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...1/IMG_0019.jpg

The CE28 Genesis has been out but here is a close up:

Just thought I'd share.

Why does the center of the 37 look polished? I like a polished lip but the center should be painted. If these wheels come in a different color I may be open to getting this than the Advan rgd.

I think it is just the picture. Other pictures I have seen show the entire wheel being painted.

I would love to see the 19x12. Thanks for posting!

:iagree: I sure do LOVE the new SLs!!!!! :yum: I wonder what it'll look like on my Platinum Graphite.

ClemsonWill 09-22-2010 07:34 PM

They would look sick on PG! IMO - the only downside is the fact that there are no center caps for them. I have been thinking. Anyone know how hard it would be to make flat center caps? I would think most machine shops could make something like this.

I fapped.

I agree I'd prefer the center to match but it does look a bit different than that picture. Here's a nice video that shows the SuperLap better:

Most volk's come with a cap. If you don't prefer the ones that come with that wheel Rays makes flat caps (and others), if you click on the previous cars / intro on my signature you will see them on my G35 and M3. Here is a pic from the Rays option parts site:

If you are ordering a special order color, it's best to order those caps at the same time for a color match.

Edit:
Here are a few images of my flat caps.

I got a little more info on tech and look of the TE-SL.

Tech: The center area looks a little different because it's redesigned. They also made the center bore larger. These 2 features make the SuperLap 1 pound lighter than the regular TE model.

Looks: The center is a machined finish but they use a tinted clear coat on it that will give it a different texture and color. In terms of center caps ClemsonWill was right. Because the center bore was increased there won't be caps for these wheels.

Also, on the multi fin new wheel I started the OP with there is no name yet.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know the regular TE37s have flat center caps available (even thought I believe $40-50 per cap is a bit high). The SLs are a different size to cut down on the weight. I have been told there are no center caps with them.

Looks like we were replying at the same time lol. You were right, no caps.

I pulled that pic off the Rays Japan site. It's under the Trinity wheels section. I could have swore I've seen that pic plus some more when someone posted pics of that body kit on the forums.

A very unique kit, only two exist currently, on the Tamon car and one other.

I was told the Trinity are available by special order. They are not stocking it in the US at the moment. I'm sure if demand rises they may. But ya, you just have to wait for it after ordering.

Supposed to be shown at SEMA toward the end of this month, I'm sure we'll see more info then.

I don't see the SuperLap on the RAYS site. I looked because they usually have a link to a size chart for each wheel. I'll see if I can find out what the current offering is although I thought I read that orders are being taken now for Nov delivery. If that's true I don't know how to explain how that WRX in the vid has them though..?

Joebarchuck 10-08-2010 12:34 PM

Those wheels are nice.

From what I have seen...yes you are correct. Here is a picture that I got. Other than the angle of the spokes being slightly different on the +12/+22 10.5 versus the +23 11.0...the lip length looks like its going to be identical. They took the time to show that the 9.5 +22 lip is shorter in the diagram...so I would assume that the picture shown depicts a rough image of actual product.

For a "racing" wheel...you really cant have too much of a lip anyhow. It affects the ability of the rim to stay "straight" during lateral cornering...well....so I have been told. Though...it does make sense...in an abstract sort of way.

I did a quick rendering of how SL would look on my PG. (I know, it's a bad photo editing job) I was worried there wouldn't be enough color contrast between the car and the rim but I think this looks good. I'm in between flat black TE37 and the SL. Which of the two would you guys get if you were me? ;)

Unless you can get centercaps made to fit....and fit well....dont think that its going to be such a great idea...IMO. The exposed centers will rust...slightly oxidize...and such eventually, and I think that it looks a little too "boy racer" to me at my age. If I were 16-25 yeah I would go for it....but past 30ish...I dont know.

Dont get me wrong though....I really REALLY like the rims too. Just that the lack of centercaps kind of kills it for me. Though...it is what it is. It is meant for the track and on the track...you dont need centercaps to go flying off when you take those hard turns.

That's the problem I always have with PG as a gunmetal wheel lover. PG looks good but if you like GM wheels you may end up with a giant wall of grey and no contrast. To me the only way to pull it off is if you have a polished lip. The SL has a different lip so you may be ok. Black is always the safe bet on your color. In the end if you like it that's all that matters.

HAHA SuperFap indeed.

Thnx for your feedbacks. :tiphat: I will def take your words into consideration. I really would like to see the SLs in person before deciding on anything tho. Leaning more towards the black TEs again. +1 from me.

19x12.......I'm all about that. 19x11 fits too easily and there is room for more. Tires would be the issue. The TE37 Superlap looks awesome.

another couple weeks till my superlaps arrive.

i have every intention to machine a 1-piece hubcentric spacer / center cap for my SLs on our CNCs... unless there is no lip around there to hold it down, but i bet there will be. Shouldnt be a problem. I may or may not make a few sets to sell off. We'll see what happens when the wheels finally arrive.
