BIG nail in tire!
Hi guys, I got a really big nail in my right rear tire. The tire shop was able to patch it up, but the big nail tore up some of the steel braidings in the tire. Is it still safe to use the tire at speed with a patch on it?
Thanks! :) |

Or I should say that you should get 2 rears if you've been driving on the tires for a while. Either way you shouldn't be driving on that especially if it's a big nail as mentioned. Be safe. |
Thanks CrownR426. I guess I will need to buy a new tire then... It just hurts coz my Z has only 1k miles on the odo so tires are still pretty new...

$300 tire or possible $500 deductible right>?

if the nail breaks or rips the steel braiding the tire is not good any more

Pics of the big nail?
At my old job there was a shortcut through an alley and the residents would get pissed that people would use the shortcut so they would leave nails in the alley. I once had a nail in all four tires :shakes head: |
Nails are fixable repairs as long as theres no slash to the tire? it can be patched. Even if the radial wires are poking thru, the installer will grind the area in prep for the patch. A sidewall puncture is a different story. Just my 2 cents.

I got a nail in my front driver side tire and managed to get 25,000 miles out of it patched up. This is with the factory advans, too.

I had a huge container anchor pin in my GSD3 long time ago.
My tire place patched it from inside out and worked fine for the 15K miles before I swapped tires (street driving). If the patch is done right it should be fine... But I would not track the tire though... |

that looks kinda similar to the size my tire had years ago. mine was 1/4" in diameter, patched fine.

Here's the pin from 5yrs ago and the scissors that recently punctured my Z's rear tire a few wks ago. Penny for size reference. :D
