Rotate tires side to side: what good does that do?
It's been recommended that I rotate my tires side to side. I can't see how that will be of any benefit because the outside of the tire will always be on the outside, no matter what side it's mounted on, and unlike moving them to the opposite side, in a front to rear - rear to front rotation, the tires will basically be in the same position, doing the same job, and wearing exactly the same as before the rotation.
What do you think Guys? |

Asymmetrical tires can be swapped side for side. Directional tires cannot. The sport package 370 comes with asymmetrical tires, so one may swap left and right side as long as you keep the fronts up front, rears at the rear. Is there value in doing this? Only if you're Zoolander and turn to the right all the time.

actually on american roads the driver side tires wear faster as we do make more right turns than left. so it would benefit to swap left/right if you're anal about getting the most miles, but you will also probably net road noise while you're at it.
just wear it out without rotation. |

if you think about it, getting the most miles out of your tires is all about saving money. And considering it COSTS money to have your tires rotated, and simply side to side does almost nothing, seems like its pretty much a wash. any 'money' you'd theoretically save by getting that marginal additional amount of mileage on your tires, you'd waste on having them rotated.

Our factory 19" wheels are easy to handle for mounting and dismounting so if you want to swap side-to-side it is not that much of task. However, there are two camps when it comes to swapping side-to-side: 1) those for it and, 2) those against it. Keeping the tire pressures constant, checking your tires for wear, and keeping your 370Z properly aligned will get the most life out of tires.

More likely to influence tire wear is an individual driver's daily commute. However, if they take the same route back home, then it essentially evens out.
