Default Alternate tires for 225/50r18?

I'm looking to replace my Yokos's which came with my 09' 370z touring coupe w/o the sports package. The front tires are 225/50r18's which suck for replacement choices. If I run the stock rear 245/45r18's what other choices do I have for the front 225/50r18's? I've heard everything from 225/45's to 235/45's....anyone with info on the Plus/neg's of changing the tire size for the front? Also which would be best w/the least overall negatives? My rears have gone from grip to bald baby but my fronts are still good. I'd like to explore other tires replacing the rears now and the fronts next month...$$$!

If you don't keep the diameter the same, your stability control and abs might screw up. You might also deal with an ill handling car if you don't do it properly.

Have a look at

BGTV8 has new boots

The post contains relevant information ..... I have run tyres with 25-30mm smaller overall diameters without ill effect on the road (and I turn the VDC off on the track anyway). With smaller tyres, the speedometer overhreads by 10% but that merely requires some mental arithmetic from time to time.

Yeah, I had to get some relatively small hoosiers for my track tires and they are 245/35/18 and 285/30/18. They look kind of small, especially the front one, but not really all that noticeable.
