The offset is actually not bad if he is looking to run an adapter-- it's actually pretty decent. Most adapters will effectively space the wheels out 20-30mm.

I guess it depends on how good of a deal you're getting. If you can resell them for more than what you pay (for rims + spacers), I'd test it out...
