Screw in my tire!
Thanks to living in Florida with all of the construction around here, this is the 2nd screw I got in my rear passenger tire. The first one I pulled out a long time ago and it just punctured the outside tread. I spotted this one this morning. I don't know how long it has been in there but my car has been garaged for about 20 hours hasnt appeared to lose any air.
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7481/screw.jpg The problem is the tires are filled with nitrogen....so should I just take it the dealer (long drive). Can they fix it, and will it cost me? |

They can fix it. But I don't know if they'll charge you. Call them and ask. If they say they'll charge you, then given that it's a long drive, you might be better off just calling some local tire shops to find one that has nitrogen and pay them to fix it. At least save the long drive.
OR, you can try yanking the thing out and slapping some of this into the hole!: http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...ghtyputty2.jpg I'm just kidding. I wouldn't really recommend it. ;) |

that is the reason i payed for that ******** insurance that Nissan will replace my tires if screws get into the tires.
Florida full of screws. |
they usually take off the tire and sand down the inside and place a patch

Florida and neverending road construction  |
Yeah dude, its part of their upgrade insurance, go talk to them, its only like $150 a year more. and any screw and they replace the tire for a new one.
its really the only thing i got, that and their we now cover more car parts insurance, because at $350 a tire, i would go broke in 6months. tell you one thing, you got a screw in your tire i got a screw thrown at 90mph at my windshield cracking it. |
^^ I got a whole tire from a rig on my hood while on the highway
the plan doesnt cover that...eh |
^^^ no dude you where already given a free tire.
j/k.. that sucks dude. |
I can't find any place that has nitrogen. It looks like I'm going to the dealer. I just hope they don't charge me $100 to patch :P
|
^^ don't be surprised...lol....since you don't have that insurance thing

It's only a screw in a tyre ffs. |
Nitrogen is way overrated. If the air is dry I don't see a real reason to use nitrogen.
|
^^^ thats the point. how meny shops you know have good air dryers on their compressors?
|
look for an americas / discout tire they have nitrogen and fix flat tires for free even if your a first time customer...that how it's out here in cali
|
LOL! I saw the thread title, and said "Can you fit in the tire to do that?"
|
^Leave it to you to interpret it that way. lol
|
Yeah, I know. I'm a little "screwed" up in the head. :D
|
Nitrogen is really overrated:
Composition of Air What you're actually paying for is the removal of 22% of the stuff you get FOR FREE in AIR. And most nitrogen I've worked with is normally only guaranteed to maybe 98%, and I'll bet it's a lot less for tire use. The GT-R has nitrogen for fear of heated tires oxidizing in racing. Unless you really race and heat your tires, you don't need nitrogen. And guess what, you get 78% of the stuff in your tires anyway! As has been mentioned, dry air is probably better for your tires/worth the money more than anything else. But I understand it's hard to take a step back once you try the bells and whistles ;) |
I still can't believe my dealership adds $400 to the sticker of every vehicle for filling the tires with nitrogen. I got testy with them about it and they took it off (I accused them of snorting the stuff), but you know that for every customer like me, there's probably 10 who don't question it and just pay it. What a scam.

I'd think about flatting the tires just to piss them off at that point, but i couldn't do that to such a beautiful car. I love and hate car dealers, they're the of a dying breed of bells and whistles, wheel and deal, and so on in an age when we all do our own stocks and buy stuff on ebay and amazon. I think this is why I loved watching my dad buy our cars growing up, he knew it all and could stay controlled through it all. Funny how all our derogatory phrases for salesmen seem car oriented...

Well said! Nitrogen is just the best way they've found to get you to pay for the air we breathe - and you don't even get the oxygen! |
