Traction control issues after ventus V12's installed
Had a set of 285/35 /19 hankook ventus v12 evo's installed on the rear of my car and now the car's traction control kicks in whenever making hard turns or even when switching lanes at speed!! I still have the potenzas on the front but have never heard of tires causing this issue? Just got my alignment done and still the issue is not solved. I have BC BR coilovers and have had no issues with the car until now... Any suggestions??
Thanks |

Give the rears a chance to wear in. |
Try resetting the ecu?

Actually, I didin't think I'd ever say this, but really like the 370Z's traction control -- you can still kick out the rear easily; there's just fewer surprises when you do it. |
How many miles do you have on those rears?
For the first 2-300 miles you will have a slight gel coat on the tires which will prevent you from gripping as well as you should. Just do a couple of burn outs LOL :) |

It can take up to 500 miles to fully "break in" a set of new street tires depending on your driving habits. |
I'm not entirely convinced that what everybody else has said is correct.
It could have something to do with your front and rear tires being 0.3" different in diameter now. Stock, they are 0.1" different at most. Such a "slip" between the front and rear wheel speed sensors (there is one on each wheel for ABS and VDC purposes) may cause the system to engage sporadically. Give it a few hundred more miles like everybody else says. If it doesn't go away, you're going to need to get some matching diameter front tires. |
Buy a set of front tires

I've put about 350 miles on the tires so far, maybe I just need to let them wear in a little more. I believe the diameter difference could be causing the issue, but this is what the Nismo comes equipped with from the factory... Unless the Nismo's ECU is retuned for the difference in tire size?

hmm. thats weird why would nismo create more understeer? bah, anyway besides the point.
the only thing i can really think otherwise is when i ran hankooks awhile back they fit wider and taller than the other tires i ran in the same sizes (contisport 2, rt-615, 595ss) never ran any bridgestones but ive noticed they always have a narrow fit. so maybe its throwing the sensors off in that sense. |
do a quick burn out. :p

I have about 2,000 miles on mine and I have had no issues at all. I am running stock sizes FWIW.

Had to bring this back to life, as I just experienced it. I have my front aftermarkets off the car, and put the OEMs back on until I get the aftermarkets back. Wow, did the handling go bonkers. I have Hankook 305s in the rear, and this car won't take turns at all (at speed). It is probably a mixture of tire grip and overall diameter, but when I took my first on-ramp, I thought the car was broke. Very weird and not recommended - need my new fronts back and on the car.

when used tires sit for a while in storage they need to be broken in again as the outer rubber tends to dry out at times. |
Diameter doesn't really seem to bother it too much, I've run some odd sizes.
It does not like having different compounds front and rear, the different grip levels are very pronounced in the car for some reason. Just for fun I drove around the block with DOT slicks mounted only on the left side of the car, boy did that feel weird! Had to drive with the steering wheel cocked to one side. |
Yeah, it is probably the different compounds, as I have noticed the Hankooks are definately not as grippy. As for my comments of not being able to turn, the car wouldn't turn, lost all power, and it was choppy. Probably wanted to oversteer some (although didn't feel like it), and then the computer took over, and it actually felt more like understeer. All I can say is, don't do it. FYI, the tires are all good - 11k in the fronts, 1k in the rears.

I just think that running different brand tires is 90% of the problem... that's just me =)
|
for the spongy sidewall, run higher tire pressures
i was at 32 and it was garbage tire would try to fold on itself, 40 and its nice and crisp again |
I have the same tires in 255/35/19 305/30/19 and I get the tc light all the time in 3rd around 3-5k rpm.
|
I have Hankook tire too and I turned the VDC off and haven't had a problem since.
