So I was doing some research on wheel offset and it was getting frustrating... So what is a wheel offset? The literal definitions were bit confusing. I am getting confused whether the offset has to do with wheels going up or down or outward or inward. Does the offset tell the distance between how far the rim goes up or down or inward or outward?

btw staggered wheels mean different width between the front and rear? right?!

Wheel offset has to do with the design of the wheel, the size of the wheel and a couple of other things. In general most are running around a +30 to +22 in the front and +20 to +10 for the rear on these cars, depending on sizing and what the customer wants to run, aggressive or more subtle.

Hi Jay,

Offset is how much the wheel comes in or out. This number is independent of the wheel width.

A wheel with a higher offset will sink into the wheel wells more (towards the car). A wheel with a lower offset will be pushed outwards.

If you're having trouble understanding this concept, imagine that the face of the wheel and the barrel (where the tire sits) are not connected. If you push the barrel outwards, this demonstrates a lower offset. Push it inwards, that's positive offset.

To the extremes, offsets can have a strong impact on whether or not they will fit- too high of an offset and the wheels will not clear your suspension or begin hitting your inner fender well. Too low of an offset and the wheels will start to stick out past the fender. Wheel fitment is all about finding that balance between what looks good and fits well.

Staggered wheels mean that the front and rear wheels are of different sizes. Most of the time, this term is applied only to width but in some rare instances it can also apply to diameter as well. For RWD cars, a staggered setup is slightly wider in the rear versus the front.

PM me if you have any additional questions. I can help you find what you need.

Like the two vendors said you are right in your thoughts about staggered wheels. Now the offsets concept can be very simple and easy to get a basic understanding for. However, picking the perfect offset can be a difficult task as you have to take into account your brake size, your tire size and the application of use. For example I have one of the most aggressive wheels on the boards with the following specs:

20x10 +15
20x12 +0

Now the +15 & +0 is the mm distance the back of the wheel face is from the center line of the wheel. Check out the offset discussion sticky for more explanations

Thats already known its a given. I just had no idea there was a running list for this type of stat . All these claims are getting old. Many feel the same way just do not come out and say it.

This site seems to be one big competition. "First this", "most that". It's borderline pathetic. That's why all I can do is smile.

Distance from centerline (red) to offset (blue) = offset. Or it's the distance between the two blue arrows. If the blue line is to the right, it's positive offset. If the blue line is to the left, it's negative offset. Hope that helped!

Lol W.O.W. You crack me up man! I know I'm not the most aggressive. Hence why I said "one of the most". Also the response isn't geared toward you a fellow member who understands the offset game probably better than I do... How does the OP know he is getting the right info from the right people he is new here and doesn't know who has what and who has done what... So sometimes we have to fill them in. So chill out and help new people rather than criticize those who do. I get 3-4 PM's a week or more asking will this fit or what size spacers should I run and etc... My participation here is to help new members not say I am a wheels guru cause I'm not and there is a lot I must learn too... feel free to step up and answer the newbie questions everynow and then

It is the manner in which the delivery of information relayed that is my contention.

I help out many members, I have been since 2003. I knew my 350z inside out and I am on my way with my 370z. However, I do it in the most humble way. I am just seeing a new wave of narcissistic posts and threads proclaiming their superiority in everything they do from some members. Its immature and counter productive.

Just an observation, but since this is the internet, it doesn't really matter anyways.

Don't take posts here like those on my 350z the crowd here is much different. Honestly, I hope people learn from my successes and failures here on the boards. With new members I set a tone of I know what I am talking about and not out of my a$$. If you take that as arrogance re think my posts. Of the many members that know me personally off of the boards they know I am an extremely humble person. I also structure my posts so that others know who to come to if they have questions cause I can either have the answer or point them to the member who does. I'm a doer and not a keyboard jockey so I don't read too much into peoples posts. I take everything at face value.

I really think bullit said he was one of the most aggressive setups just as an example of 'hey this is nearing the limits of how far you can go.' its a measurement for god's sake, i really don't think he was trying to brag about it.

Bullit, this is the second time i've seen people call you out on this nitpicky business. The other one was in your build thread when i asked whether you were the only one who had done forged internals for your twin turbo build.

Honestly, tearing apart what people say just so you can criticize them is really not necessary.

Again, it is not what is said, it is the delivery. Nonetheless, claims are made all the time and that brings attention to yourself. Claims spark interest and curiosity. The bigger the claim made, the bigger interest and curiosity will follow from others. It's a pretty simple cycle. Bold claims will attract scrutiny and fact checks. Its an everyday thing not limited to web forums.

If one takes corrections to certain claims as criticism, then forums are not for you. This is an open forum, open for discussion and disagreement, last time I checked.
