And trust me, I understand the work that these companies go through to design and manufacture their wheels. However, I can say without a doubt they are charging a premium for them just because they are popular and desirable wheels. You're buying the name with a wheel thrown in Enter companies like Rota....They see that there is obviously a market for replica wheels at a significant discount in pricing. It's obvious people will pay less for the look and can ignore the weight or process used to create them. While Enkeis are a great option, it's hard to get that perfect "hella flush" look that all the kids are crazy about. |

in a country where chinese, koreans, japanese, taiwanese, malaysian, etc are considered the same you are a 'smart shopper' if you buy rota/xxr/shitwheelznext which looks exactly the same, smells and feels the same as the Volks (to their eyes).
it's a very sad situation really. this is why i get tired when i see replica cheezo wheels. why bother putting in the effort when people dont realize the difference? |

I kind of agree with you in looking down/looking up to people because of wheels. It's not a custom built turbo, all you did is write a check, or clicked buy... no accomplishment there. On the other hand, if you have sports package Rays, you cant go and buy cheap cast wheels... that's pointless, even if form > function rule applies, our OEM wheels look more than great, and are forged light high quality as well. Can't expect to not get a few WTFs? out of it in a thread on these forums. |

yah i dont see the point of selling the sport package wheels for cheezo wheels at all.
100% of the time uninformed folks buy the wrong offset and widths, wrong tire size making their cool car look like crap. |

I have no problem with owners buying replica wheels for a much cheaper price. I just can't justify spending 2-5k on a set of rims. I say buy the xxr if you like it, the only people that hate on them are just trying to justify their purchase.
Keep in mind when you need to replace 1, 2, or 3 wheels. Ouch! |

To me Volk and advan are great, but they have moved out of the price range that made them great. A TE37 is over 3k these days, and I would rather have a 3 piece wheel for that, WHY you ask? Well b/c if I ever damage that wheel, it wont cost me an arm and a leg to fix it, I can just order the damaged lip or barrel and put it on. They are many reputable cast wheel companies out their, but I wouldnt put XXR on my Z. |

To the op, I dont know if you are in the mainlaind (U.S.), I am out here in Hawaii and everything is marked up because of importing exporting tax, shipping , etc etc, But if you have patience you can find a sweet deal on the forum or locally, I found a set of 5 month old babied Volk GTF's for 27 without tires of course, and I offered the guy 2K cash he accepted, problem is he is always at work...dam dam...so just give it time and maybe you can score a good deal, good luck to you.
P.S. check craigs for wheels and research how to check the authencity of quality wheels before buying used. |
