Anyone running a non-staggered setup?

Anyone know how a non-staggered set up like this would work?

MY350Z.COM Forums

I would love to be running 285's all around, although I might stagger tire size I guess... I'm just curious how the car feels with a non-staggered setup, and how well 10's would fit up front.

OMGWTFBBQ 07-29-2010 12:47 PM

Ask Mike. He's running a square setup. So is Robispec/Bluemeanie if I'm not mistaken. I have a set of 18x10 +15 all around Advan RGii's I might slap on when I'm bored.

Most full time track vehicles will run a "squared" setup. Typically the car is easier to control and dial in.

Red__Zed 07-29-2010 06:32 PM

Any ideas whether those guys would fit OK on a 370 in those sizes and offsets?

Mike 07-30-2010 06:44 AM

I run 285/30-18s all around on the track. it reduces understeer. They are an inch shorter than stock, but no problems with them.

What rims are you running and with what offsets?

Mike 07-31-2010 09:57 AM

4 rear 350Z track rays, widened one inch by weldcraft wheels. they were 8.5 +33 but are now 9.5 +46. The fronts fit perfect, the rears fit without spacers and don't have any interference, but are tucked in, so I run either a 15 or 25 mm spacer on the rears, whichever I happen to be using for my street tires. Right now, its the 15mm spacer

Do you have any experience running 10's up front?

The setup I want to run is Enkei RPF1 19x10+22 all the way around-- I was going to stagger tire size, with 285's out back and 275's up front.

OMGWTFBBQ 08-02-2010 01:02 PM

Google "robispec 370z" and click on the first article that shows up.

Quoted from the third page: "Fat 285/35-18 NT05’s are used on all 4 corners on Enkei NT03+M 18x10.5 wheels. Longer studs with 25mm rear spacers arte used. This allows a 30mm offset on all 4 wheels, easing rotation of the tires for even wear. "

I guess you could try shoving 285's all around, but might be a problem since it's slightly more aggressive than the Robispec setup.

did anyone race on such aggressive setup on stock suspension? i am scared to run my 35mm wheel as i am scared it will hit the fender. i am consider selling them for a 45mm front and 25mm rear setup instead, but that defeats the purpose of a square setup partially since i wont be able to rotate them

just get the 4 the same size and use a 20mm type 2 spacer.

Dan, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a quality spacer. Porsche even uses them on some of their race cars.

cossie1600 08-02-2010 10:48 PM

I guess that would save some money, but I am always afraid of those thing shearing off and sending me flying

You have any pics of the setup with the 15mm spacer? I'm curious how those would look with an effective 30mm offset. I had thought that would be too tucked in for use on a Z.

Mike 08-03-2010 11:36 AM

I will on two weeks, when I put them back on

Cool, thanks for all your help!

pics with 15mm spacers on the rear. 25 are definitely optimum, but 15s work for the track, plus they keep me from throwing so much garbage on the back bumper.

OMGWTFBBQ 08-14-2010 04:05 AM

I absolutely LOVE your setup Mike!

Mike 08-14-2010 04:33 AM

thanks, although I decided last night to switch to the stune 19s for the track and sell these. Got a good deal on some Nismo wheels for street use.

cossie1600 08-14-2010 08:23 AM

How much?

Mike 08-14-2010 08:47 AM

I'd like 1000 plus shipping, but I need to hear back from a friend who was interested first

VancouverZ34 05-17-2011 06:37 AM

this thread was very educating!
I just ordered 18 x 10 + 20 all around and I was still hesitating until I read this thread, but now I can finally get a good sleep!! haha

OMGWTFBBQ 05-17-2011 04:24 PM

I'm running 18x10 +15 all around. The offset is definitely not ideal for a track setup, especially since I have a 30mm spacer in the rear. Should have gone for a slightly less aggressive offset so I can get wider tires than the 255/40 I'm running now. -2.3 degrees front and -2.0 degrees rear camber.

would I have any issue with 18 x 10 +20 all around?
I want to fit 265/35/18 all around as well.
I plan on fitting 15mm spacer in the back just to show, but will take them out on trackdays.

b1adesofcha0s 06-05-2011 03:36 PM

So what ever happened with this non-staggered setup?

Red__Zed 06-05-2011 03:43 PM

a move is standing in my way right now. No sense hauling extra crap right now.

Right. I thought you might have already done it for ZDayZ. Will it really be a lot better for the track? If so, I will definitely do it whenever I decide to upgrade to Sport/Nismo wheels.

I'm still on stock everything for wheels/tires.

I am going to see how balanced everything is with new sways, but I suspect I will be running 9.5's all around for track duty to try to dial out the understeer that is so prevalent in the Z.

b1adesofcha0s 06-05-2011 04:21 PM

Would it be better to keep the base 18's for track duty? Like get another pair of base 18 rears and run them all around? I was thinking that whenever I get the Sport/Nismo wheels, I could get either 4 fronts or 4 rears and run a squared setup like you were talking about.

cossie1600 06-05-2011 10:45 PM

I don't think they will clear the big brakes. It's pointless anyway, you can get bigger tires in there with the bigger rims. I run 9.5" wheel all around with 285 on one set, 9 and 10 with 285 on the other set.

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2011 12:31 AM

Good point. I still have the base brakes but will definitely upgrade in the future.

so i googled the 'non-staggered' set-up of 370z's and got three or four threads(this being a great one). i bent the front passenger wheel and need to purchase a new front wheel and tire, however i was wondering if i should just purchase two more rear s-tune's(same size specs and offset as the sport rays) and place them up front so i can rotate tires. will i need new bolts for the wheels up front? thank you.

synolimit 12-22-2013 06:00 PM

New bolts?

matcop 12-23-2013 12:31 AM

Robispec Set up

I had Robi do my setup

285/35/18 18x10.5 square setup 30 offset with 25mm spacer in the rear.

Love how neutral the car is. Running NT05 tires. They suck on cold days. They are pretty squirrely until they heat up. On the track, IMO there isnt a better tire.

I had a Modified SPL arm put on before they finally released the actual 370 A Arms for the front.
