Scuffed wheel
So normally I leave my car parked during the week and take the BART to work in the city, but in the interest of breaking the car in, I have been driving in to my office a few times a week (my office is in downtown San Francisco).
Last week I drove in a few times to take advantage of the nice weather, and on Friday, leaving work, I caught this island, you can see the turn lane I was in between the sidewalk and the island: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...Picture1-9.png I was turning and consequently paying more attention to foot traffic and auto traffic, so I ran up on the last little bit of the island, producing a horrific crunching sound (I honestly thought my front bumper was smashed). This process scuffed up my wheel and scraped the underside of my front bumper and the underside of the sideskirt (both on the driver side). http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...0/IMG_0400.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...0/IMG_0402.jpg you can kind of see the scrapage in this one, and never mind the dirtiness as it has been raining a lot around here http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...0/IMG_0403.jpg I am trying to think of my options at this point, mostly for the wheels. I was planning on powder coating my stock wheels gunmetal, but I am not so sure I want to dump the money into wheels that are less than perfect. Is there a way to fix a wheel scuff such as this? I am thinking of keeping the wheels as track wheels, with some sticky rubber on them, and for daily use get a set of 19" CE28N: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...0/DSC_6039.jpg Any other suggestions on a fix here? I know the Pearl White is very difficult to paint match so I may have to ask the dealer I bought it from if I can get a new bumper and sideskirt... or I can just wait until a aftermarket bumper comes out that I like. I am not sure what to do at this point, or what my options are. Any insight as to what can be done is much appreciated. |
That sucks, man. Curbing is always inevitable. (Especially if you drive in Los Angeles or San Francisco.)
There's a few places that fix wheels out here, but I have no clue out in SF. |

On the other hand, it is just an excuse for me to get new wheels :D Another concern I have is that it ripped into the tire partially, not too deep there is a laceration there. I hope not a cause to worry. |
I can't tell from the pics about the tire. I've had lacerations to tires before. Once it did cause my tire to blow out. And another time cause the tire to "slow" leak which would have ended up blowing out anyway.
Repairing wheels gives surprising results. I've seen WAY worse damage repaired to look new. I have no idea how they do it, but they're good at it. Repairs usually cost about $150 and it usually only takes a couple days. Might as well get the new weeks, but I'd use the new ones for tracking because they're lighter. |
wow, I am very sorry to see this. It does look pretty bad. If I were you I would either:
a. Cheapest option: Repairing the wheel ($150ish as crash mentioned.) b. Regular option: Get the same single OEM wheel. You can get them on ebay/craigslist or Nissan dealership etc. This one is for a whole set eBay Motors: 370Z 19INCH WHEELS (item 280313687853 end time Feb-22-09 11:57:50 PST) but you get the idea. c. Expensive option: Get a new set of Volks from one of our sponsors :stirthepot: |

Anyone know if the fitment is the same from the 350 to the 370? Do you suppose Volk needs a new 370 as a sponsor for their wheels? *goes to PM Sharif... |
Its just an excuse to get those Volks. The TE37s behind them are pretty sexy too.
Sorry to hear you curbed, but like crash said, it's almost inevitable :\ |
ce28n on a 370z :yum:

I really like the TE37's on the 350, but I don't think they would work on the 370. It is hard to know at this stage though as no one really has any aftermarket wheels on their 370's yet to get an idea of what they look like. |
ugh that sucks :(
send it to me, I get free wheel repairs/replacements for life ;) |
That sucks, sorry.

Yes I love the CE28 in Bronze, I think it would look incredible on the 370, the RE30 is also very nice looking. I really love the G2 wheel as well, but they are only available in 20" at this time.
I guess someone has to take the leap in being the first to mod the 370, might as well be me. |
Sorry to hear about your mishap. I once had a set of MOMO's that had custom bored to fit a vehicle, I go to park in it and clip a curb in a strip mall parking island. I have no idea why they stopped using the rounded curb profile...maybe it's time to bring them back?

i know this is way out of date, but i just got a nismo 370 and the same thing happened to me. :( What did you end up doing?
