deciding what tire width to get..

im getting some nt05's mainly because one of my ls1 buddies is pushing 600hp/600tq to the wheels in his 2002 maro. he has some 315/35/17s on the rear. and other than a little babying in 1st he can pretty much go WOT and they hold tight so that sold me on the tires. my question is what size should i go for?

would 275's be overkill? should i just stick with 245?

im not in the habbit of going slower

only way id even consider getting taller gears is if at the same time i got like a 4000+ stall lol.

there going on my stock rims. which currently have the stock 245's on them.

i dont know the rim diameter off the top of my head but whatever the stock ones are on the non sport packaged Z.

OP, it would help if mentioned what wheel they are going on.. like the width of the wheel.

275's will fit. I ran 245's on a 7.5" rim forever, and we have 9" in the back stock. Fronts are 8" and will support a 245.

well i knew the 275's will fit. the Z comes with 275 in the back with the sports package. im just debating. with such sticky tires if i would even need them to be 275.

Yes, but the sport package has 10" rear wheels.

But to answer your question, yes it's worth it because those NT-05's won't really be THAT much grippier than stock. Might as well step up the width for a ton more grip.

really? alot of the lsx guys puhing 500+ tq are raving how well the tires grip. have you used them yourself? because i havent seen anyone say anything really negative about them at all.

Not really what I said... The difference between the NT-05's and your stock, relatively sticky summer tires won't be huge. It's the width that matters a lot more than compound. Surface area is key.

Never did I say they wouldn't perform better; I merely said the difference wouldn't be that dramatic.
