Sport Package Caliper Clearance

So i went out and measured the amount of clearance necessary to clear the sport package brakes. Basically the distance between the hub mounting surface and the furthest protruding point of the front and rear calipers.

Front: 50mm
Rear 22mm

However, i was measuring with a paper ruler since i was at work on a break and just want to have someone confirm this on their sport package Z?

This is an important figure when choosing wheels and i think it would be good to have it listed on our forum. Knowing this will allow people to know whether or not the wheels they are looking at will clear their calipers before they order them.

how about you mount the paper ruler onto a pen and just remeasure it during your afternoon break? :D

My Volks GT30's have only 7mm clearance on the front between the wheel and caliper. Very close.... but if you can't trust Volks, who can you trust?

You need to read the fine print on their warranty.

They will not cover caliper damage due to fitment ..... so if a rock finds it way between your caliper and rim ...... no warranty

I believe we're talking the distance between the hub and caliper. Should be the same for everyone with sport package brakes, he just needs verification.

I'll check when I get home.

If a rock finds its way between that caliper and rim, all I can say is your luck needs to change, maybe see a buddha.

WTF? The distance is between the caliper and the wheel. 7mm. No issues. No problems. Just told everyone what it was. I really don't think a "rock" or anything else for that matter will "find" its way between the two. Just look at where the caliper is mounted (height wise). The space is on the outside edge of the caliper and the spokes of the wheel (inside edge). My car is not an off-roader.

WOW!!:gtfo2:

Relax man, your post wasn't even on topic. It's the wrong measurement.

Ok just to clarify look at the bad diagram below.

_____( )

Its a view from above. The horizontal line represents the Hub mounting surface. The parenthesis represent the caliper. If you were to draw another horizontal line from the top of the parenthesis Parallel to the hub mounting surface, the distance between those two lines is the amount of clearance behind the wheel face that is necessary to clear our Big Brake Kits.

I just confirmed with a tape measure and a ruler with a square.

The fronts require 50mm of clearance
the rear require 23mm (22 but, i say 23 to be on the safe side)

and as far as the rock hitting the caliper. I really doubt a rock is going to manage to get between your spinning wheel and the brake caliper as your car is moving. put your car on a dyno and throw a rock at the wheel. Watch it not even have a chance of hitting the caliper. (it would probably just ricochet and kill someone)
