XL tire load rating? A Problem?
I'm going to order some Hankook Ventus V12s given their overall pretty good reviews and improved treadlife over the Bridgestones.
My plan is to get 255/40/19s for the front and 285/35/19s for the rear, which will give a bit wider tread on both axles. But I came across a warning on the TireRack website for the front tires. At that size, they are actually XL load rated. TireRack warns that it may yield a harsh ride (I think they require a higher tire pressure...40something psi). So, any problems with using an XL tire? This is definitely the size I want, but I don't need problems.

The "load pressure" is the pressure at which the tire achieves its load rating. XL rated tires have a higher load rating at a higher pressure but that doesn't mean you have to run the tire at that pressure, especially if you don't need the extra capacity. The XL tires will have a slightly stiffer sidewall but with the Ventus I wouldn't expect anything extreme.

The stock fronts are 245...255 is a modest increase and I'm making the same 10mm increase in the rear. Balance should remain the same. I can also adjust my sways as needed.
Also, an increase in front tire width alone would yield increased traction up front...LESS UNDERsteer. My power steering cooler is being upgraded to assist with the extra duty.

The tire size isn't an issue. I run 275's up front on both street and race tires and haven't had any problem. The power steering fluid does get really hot after some aggressive sessions so an upgraded cooler is a good idea.
