TPMS in Aftermarket wheels
 

How many of you actually bothered buying new TPMS units and installing them in aftermarket wheels, or do most of you just deal with the light on. My concern is just that if i were to have a sudden loss of presssure due to a road hazzard, i'd want to know before i was driving around on the rim of my wheel.

advice anyone?

I actually bought new TPMS units. My light is still on though. Liquid G posted a method from a G37 board I think on how to reset it (yet to try it myself).

I think it's worth it to get them. But, if your concern is the off chance you'd be driving down to a rim, I assure you, you would know it with/without a light if your tire pressure drops that much.

Why not keep your stock ones and move them over to your new wheels? Thats what I did.

I have considered that, but I feel like people don't want to buy the stock wheels without the sensors ( i plan on selling my stock wheels when i get the new ones). I'm basically taking a fully balanced wheel and tire with TPMS, taking out the sensor, (does this unbalance the wheel/tire?), and then the wheel has no valve stem, and then selling it. So it goes from a throw it on your car and you're ready to go type of deal to... not that.

I wouldnt sweat it...people will buy them without the sensor for the right price.

its way less of a hassle...you can take the stock wheels and new wheels to virtually any reputable tire shop and have them balance and swap them out...I think its more of an issue for them if you bring your own TPMS not already with wheels mounted I dont know why but it is..

so lets say i have had my new wheels and tires balanced. then have the TPMS installed, would those wheels now need to be rebalanced?

annoying. my wheels are coming to me mounted and balanced already. so basically that is a total waste. i am best off keeping my tpms from my stock wheels, but i have no way of sending these to where i am ordering the wheels because they will be on my car until i receive my new wheels. so annoying this tpms stuff is. i'm starting to just say forget it. it seems my only choices are to BUY new ones (500 bucks down the toilet) send them to the wheel company to have them mounted and balanced with the wheels. or keep my oem ones, when my wheels come have them put in, and then balanced again. Or just no sensors.

I bought new OEM sensors for my Volks GT30's. Had them initialized by a freind of mine at a dealership.

If it were me... buy the sensors. Do you want to risk the loss of an expensive wheel and tire because of a problem that the sensor could notify you about (before any damage resulted)?

Or, you could remove the sensors from the OEM wheels and use them in your new wheels (to save you some $$).

That procedure won't work to initialize new sensors. It will only reset previously initialized sensors (and turn off your MIL).

How much did you get the sensors for? I can't find a part number... did you just get them through the dealer?

or just troll the for sale forums until someone sells their TPMS units like i did...deal with the light for now, and next time you get a tire change, put the sensors in!

I plan buying new sensors for the new wheels. The stock wheels will be my winter setup (buying snow tires of course) and the new wheels for the summer so Id like to have sensors in both sets.

My winter aftermarket rims has TPMS. They are $360 from Tirerack. As per Tirerack, they only sell OEM TPMS sensors for 370Z. (if you do decide to get them, please use the tirerack link from my sig. It helps the forum)

Do they worth? absolutely in my opinion. I had a slow leak last winter. Thanks to the TPMS, I was able to find out about it as soon as my tire pressure went below 27 PSI. So I fixed it right away. If I didn't have the TPMS, I would have no way of knowing about the leak. I'd probably wake up with a flat after few days and be late to work/meeting/important task. My :twocents:
