Don't laugh - flat spots

So I have had my Z for a month now and it has 83 miles on it. I call it my garage queen. Should I be worried about flat spots on the tires from it sitting? What is the best way to handle long time frames between driving? TIA

shabarivas 05-02-2010 12:04 PM

keep it jacked up on stands? lol i doubt it matters that much lol..

If you're going to leave it sit for a long time (month) over-inflate your tires to about 45 pounds. Just remember to deflate after.

This is how they ship new cars - with 45-50 lbs. in the tires - to prevent flat spots.

I don't believe it's possible to get flat spots on modern tires? I think that's a thing of the past...

my car sits for weeks at a time. you'll be fine.

I honestly don't understand why people buy the 370 and just let stand in their garage.

I drive the bloody car every single day

kenchan 05-02-2010 03:06 PM

wat do you mean by long time? if it's like 3 weeks just keep it at 40psi. if it's like for over a month or so, keep it at 40psi and use flatstoppers.

if it's like just 5-6days then just keep it at 37-38psi.

Because I have 5 cars and put the miles on my wife's new black cherry roadster

Everybody has their different opinions. I don't understand somebody taking a car that is a limited edition (40th Anniv or Nismo) and hacking it all up with wierd mods. The flip side is in 10 or 20 years possibly I will have the only cherry/original 40th Anniversary which would be way cool in my book.

Mod it and keep all the original parts. If you are worried about the car's value in 20 years, that's just crazy....lol

P.S: In 20 years, it won't be worth much anyways.

my work provides a bus for free. why spend extra money on gas and paying for parking? plus i have a civic for all the other stuff. the z is strictly pleasure driving.

Never did I say I was doing this for an investment or to keep it from depreciating. Purely a beauty is in the eye of the beholder mentality. If I can afford to buy nice things and treat them how I chose, that shouldn't be "crazy" should it?

fullmonty 05-02-2010 08:15 PM

Sorry to say these cars won't be worth squat in 10, 20, 30 years. Its a mass produced car thats exported pretty much anywhere on earth. Its a $40k car and I'll treat it as nothing more than that. Personally if you just bought the car to sit in the garage with the notion that it will be worth something, you wasted your money. Thats my opinion and I'm sure alot of you disagree with me

i really wouldnt wouldnt worry about flat spots to much..my brothers evox sat for a good 6 months without over inflation or anything. and had 0 problems. Would assume the z wouldnt be too different. BTW Great Choice in color

FuszNissan 05-02-2010 10:15 PM

Just put some nitro in the tires
