2016 370Z Base model
18x8 F - 18x9 R Currently running 245 40 r18 F and 275 40 r18 R Looking into getting some street radials but don't know if I should or can go a bit wider on the rear on the stock wheels. Thus the reason for the post. Want to go 285 40r18 (0.3" diameter difference) which is okay from the little bit of tire sizing that I understand. But my question is will a 285 fit on 9in wide wheel? Or any recommendations on street radial setup for the stock wheel sizes I have. Thanks in advance. |

Can you run a 285 on a 9" wheel? That is a bit wide for a narrow wheel, but yes it can be done. However, you can't run 245/40 with 285/40. That's over 5% differential in diameter. VDC is not going to like that. Alternatively, you could run 245/40 with 285/35.
A better solution would be to get some wider wheels.

Rear stock tire size is 245/45 so if im going with a 285/40 its only a 1.06% (0.3")diameter difference according to Fitment industries tire calculator. Not sure at what percentage difference it starts messing with VDC. But yeah main question was that if 285 would fit on 9 in wheel.

Comparing a 285/40 to the stock 245/45 is irrelevant given that you're not running the stock tire size in front. The VDC system starts to get temperamental when the front/rear tire diameter differentials exceed 3%. As I mentioned, a combination of 245/40 and 285/40 will result in a diameter differential of more than 5%.
