Default Powder coating solutions for a daily driver

Silly question but I'm very interested in getting my rims powder coated. The problem is that this is my only daily driver and I hear they keep your wheels and car for over 4 days for such jobs? I'm trying to figure out how this will work out in a 9-5 M-F lifestyle for an independent guy with one car.

Really depends on the shop. I was quoted by a very reputable company up here for $135/wheel.

i just had mine done, i havent posted pics yet but i will later. all i have are iphone pics just fyi. i paid 80 a wheel for satin black. they came out really nice and even the guys at discount tire that mounted them back on the tires told me they were surprised on the quality.

but... i should warn you on the unexpected expenses..(which delayed me getting my Z tinted to next paycheck)

it was 12.50 for the mount, and it was 12.50 for the dismount. (discount tire)
so 100$ there

it was about 50$ for the tpms rebuild kit and another 40$ to balance them

true cost

powdercoat including sandblast 80$ x 4 = 320$
mounting 12.50$ x 4 = 50$
dismounting 12.50$ x 4 = 50$
tpms rebuild = 50$
balancing = 40$

total = 510$

I left my car on stands for 1week and 1 day

it took them 7 days to finish but i got the call that they were done when i was at work =(, so i had to wait an extra day or call in sick halfway through my work day...i need my job to pay for my z so ya

Damn, you poor guys are paying way to much for your powder coating.
We powder coat at least 2-3 sets of wheels a month on average..... We also do all sorts of custom color powder coating and anodizing. We are also known for having great quality results.

For us to dismount the tires, sandblast and prep the wheels, powder coat and bake the wheels, then re-mount and balance the wheels and tires we only charge a total of $325.... for any standard (one stage) color.

If the wheels are already dismounted and brought in to us, we charge $63-$68 a wheel.... for most any wheel, and almost any color you can think of.

you charge way too little. When I was doing wheels, I was getting 400 a set, unmounted and was turning business away. I don't do wheels anymore, just too much work for a one man shop where that man has two full time jobs. At that price point, I don't know how you can do it profitably, unless you have an assembly line type shop.

Yeh, I know.... Your preachin' to the choir about our prices being low (maybe too low).

There isn't too much profit margin in a lot of the things we do, that's for sure.....
