Tire sizes for stock sport wheels?
I have decided on giving the Hankook Ventus V12s a shot this go around but haven't decided on sizing yet.
Should I retain the stock size or go bigger? I was thinking possibly 275/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear as the widest I would go. There really isn't much in between the above sizes and stock sizes that would be any closer to stock tire diameter/sidewall height. Kinda feel like 275s are a little wide up front (though I've seen it done here with RE-11s), but Hankook doesn't offer the V12s in 265/35 as far as I can tell. Thoughts? |
I was going to go with that setup, my current debate is that setup or V12 in stock sizes.
Some will say the 305 will pinch a bit on a 10" wide wheel while others have done it with little issue. |
I could run a 295/30 rear but then I'd be giving up too much in diameter, IMO. From what I've seen, 305s look fine on the stock rear.

Anyone running this setup with the V12s?
The more I think about it, this car doesn't need that much tire. |
I think I will, I keep saying I should just go with stock size on the V12 but then I keep say, well it works and looks good and is not that much more price wise.

On the sport wheels I have the Hankook tires
V12: Front 255 35 19 26 Rear 295 30 19 26 OEM: Front 245 40 19 26.8 Rear 275 35 19 26.5 The ride and handling is great although my rpms are a little bit higher but not bad. Using the speed calculator 65mph is actually 63.5 and 75mph is actually 73.28 per the OEM to V12 sizes respectively. The link Tire Size Calculator - Discount Tire Direct No worries |
I'm an idiot

Do you even know what you are talking about? This thread is not about new wheels, it is about people putting new tires on stock wheels. You know, some people do drive their cars around and have to buy new tires for stock wheels. |

To the OP. Do you plan to autox or track the car? If so, 305 might actually be an overkill. I have 265/285 on the stock wheel, I have a tough time spinning the rears unless I really do something stupid. If you go for looks, doesnt matter |

On another note, how are things in VA z34? Whoops, I mean TX ;) |

Well, call me crazy, but Im thinking about going with the same set up(305/30-19) for the rear tires. I dont need new tires because I only have about 1600 miles on my car, but I like the look of a fatter tire.
Has anyone had any issues with this set up? Can you tell a big difference from in how wide the 305 campared to the 275 tire? Tell me if Im wrong, but with the tire calculator, it appears that my speedo will only be off by less than 1 mile an hour. |
Nubz,
The 305 will be approximately 30mm wider mounted on the wheel. A few guys are running 275 front and 305 rear on the factory Sport wheels with no issue. I think when it's time to replace my street tires I may as well go 275/305 instead of OEM sizing. |
it seems like 305 might be overkill from a functional standpoint based on how much power our car has (not that much). as far as looks, they look awesome.
|
I will be supercharged when it comes time to replace this set :D

No problemo. 305s will look pretty sweet on the back. Just make sure you go wider up front too to maintain a stagger similar to OEM.

the 305's are truly massive. a 275 is not exactly a narrow tire, and the dwarf them.
|
Yeah, people have been fitting 275/35/19s up front with no issues rubbing. You wouldn't want to go any wider than that, though.

Now I gotta figure out which tires I want to go with. I could always put the stock rear tires on the front wheels and just replace the rear tires.

This is a big thing for me toooooo. I wanted to go with the 305's but then I thought, is the look worth putting the miles off on the car??? It sucks whenever you want to sell the car... Plus the speedo, I donno.... Not sure if its worth it yet...
|
It shouldn't be off by much. I think its only off by less than a mile an hour...

so at 60 you would be going 59.2, which imo isnt bad at all |
