Spare tire for Z question
First it was the Roadster wheel lock fiasco, now getting a spare is another.
First, the Dealer parts told me that none is available for my Z, it only comes with the fix-a flat and air compressor. Then when I pointed out that there is a wheel well and a tower to secure the spare, they agreed that one should be available for my Roadster. The Dealer parts said that to get a wheel, jack and rod jack holder would cost over $800.00. That dosesn't seem right. I thought the spare was $200.00, and never thought about the jack, but I'll bet there's an generic jack that's well less than the $240.00 Nissan wants for theirs and a handle, that will fit in the trunk. Do any of you have some input on my getting a spare and jack for my Roadster? Also might help to figure this one out for any future Z owners who want to get a spare sometime in the future. |

Bye the way; the owners manual says "if" you have a spare, so some Z's have one, and others don't. I was not given an option when I bought the car. Do any of you know how one car ends up with a spare and the other car doesn't?

I thought US models all got spares, I know some countries get the tire filler stuff and other things.

Don't use that tire fixaflat crap. You'll mess up your TPMS system. Instead, get a BlackJack plug kit. I plugged one of my rear tires after I snagged a nail and it works great. You don't even have to pull the tire off the car.

No problem, I've been nothing but impressed by my little BlackJack tire plug kit. Super cool and incredibly easy.

The tool slots we have in the US that are empty are for tools that you can purchase in other countries, like many other features we get left out here in the US. Now the lack of spare sucks for the roadster.

Well, I am going to get a spare for my Roadster, one way or another.
I can buy one from Nissan Parts Department for $603.64 plus tax, then I'll have to buy a jack and jack handle. Nissan wants $217.00 for their jack. Seems like allot of money for a simple scissors jack, but I want everything to fit into the tool holders for secure holding of everything. IF I can find everything after market, and it they are the same fit as the stock Nissan, and the savings is considerable, then I'll go that route. If I can't, then I'll go ahead and order the Nissan set up. It seems like more expense than it should be, but if I am ever in a situation where I need that spare, the initial expense won't seem to be too costly then. If this were just some car, then I wouldn't mind so much, but I do not want to be in a situation where my only option is to have someone tow my Z, or even flat bed it. Both situations take an expert hand at doing on a car like the Z. I can imagine how I would be feeling, standing there at 3:00 in the morning in the middle of nowhere, watching some tow guy trying to figure out how to hook up to my Z, or likewise with a flatbed, wishing I had parted with the $900.00 and bought myself a spare when I had the chance. The way I feel about my Z, and sense of responsibility for a passenger, if spending $900.00 only makes me sleep better, knowing I am able to take care of myself, then that's worth it right there. Peace of mind has value too. Plus, I'd still have the plug kit, air compressor, and the fixaflat. If any of you have any suggestions, send them my way. If not, I'll let you all know how I end up with this. Thanks. |

I know I'm really late, but it seems like maybe you could buy one off of someone on this site. I know some of these guys are pulling them out for weight savings. I'm sure for $600, someone would be willing to make a deal.

Spare wheel and tire for 2011 370Z
The part # for the wheel is 403001BT7A, about $180.00 from Nissan Parts Suppliers (Google the part # to find supplier)
The part # for the tire is TBill-S0560 (size is T145/80D17) it is a donut tire, about the same price as the wheel. You will also need the retainer to hold the wheel when stored in the trunk, Part #74810JY01A, about $20 |
