I would rather get 2 fewer mpg then have to buy a front bumper because my braking distance is increased in an emergency situation. Do a search on the risks of "hypermiling", most have a section on higher tire pressures. You can do what you want and likely you will never need to use the brakes at their max on the street. But to me, the risk ain't worth it.
