TPMS Reset

Hey guys,

I swapped wheels and tires with cab83_750 today (I would highly recommend this guy for any transaction btw). He had the oem 18" non sport pkg setup and I had the 19" oem sport pkg wheels and tires. We did a direct swap of the entire setup and my tpms light came on about 10 minutes into driving on the fwy. I'm assuming I have to get the tpms reset. Does this require dismounting the tire or can it be done a different way? Thanks in advance.

Tim

No you can take it to the dealer and they can do it in 5 minutes without removing the wheels. They might charge you though.

Ah good to know. Thanks. What's the concept behind the tpms reset? Do they just have to make the tpms communicate with the ecu? Done remotely I'm assuming?

T,

Thank you for:

1. The Positive Feedback.
2. Saving me the legwork on the TPMS.
3. The smooth transaction.

I also recommend you as a person that people on this board can deal with!!!!!

On a side note, I bet that the TPMS is radio/frequency controlled. The sending unit in the tire is probably 'tuned' to the frequency of the receiving unit in the car. If they are not, then if I park next to a Z with a flat tire, it would send the wrong info to my car!

However, I will let others to chime in!!!!!!

Whenever I switch wheels I take it down to the tire store and they reprogram the new sensors to the car. It involves hooking up their handheld programmer up under the dash and "reading" the new sensor at each of the wheels. They do it for free for me at my tire shop but I've done a lot of business with them. I've heard of the dealer charging anywhere from a little to a lot to do this.

It's cool the trade worked out for you two - Nice.

Haha thanks Schrute! Yeah, slowly but surely I'm re-gaining faith in the society. I'm 3 for 3 in terms of chill-honest-people-transactions this year. Hopefully it continues. I've heard of dealers doing it for free so I guess I'll ask my salesperson who is very laid back. Hope I see a review about the FI Exhaust tonight!!!

Cab, I think you're on the money with your theory. AK just posted a thread where he purchased one of those devices where you can reset it on your own and he talked about the different frequencies too. Good stuff.

yes, here's the thread http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...01-your-z.html It's been so much snow here, I can't take off my winter rims just yet :(. Though, I am planing on doing the swap early March. I'll let you guys know if it works or no. If it doesn't, then I have my eyes on this one  This is a new product offered by Tirerack I think.

I'll keep you guys informed either way.

Thanks AK as always!

We had clear weather for about a week so I put my DOT approved track tires on to wear off the mold release. Got the TPMS light to come on due to no sync. After the rain came back I put the DD set back on and the sensors synced right up (light turned off). I was worried the sync would be lost but not so:tup:
