^^ jeezz....this is making me go crazy.......lol
wait til you order some aftermarket rims and you got the sports package....you'll find a 6th bolt on the rotors....lol |
Hey man, I'm just trying to answer the original question that started this entire thread. The OP wanted to know what wheel locks fit the stock rims. Notice that with after 4 pages of discussion (and we're on 5 now!), there has still been no definitive answer. :icon17: I figure by Wednesday, I'll either be able to supply a solid answer with a part #. Or we'll be back to square one. lol
|
^^ LOL.....we are really having a debate on stock lugs...... how many other convos have you been in about this exact issue.....hahahahahaha
|
Well what exactly are you recommending? I mean, the guy wants to know what wheel locks fit the stock rims, so of course we need to figure out the stock lugs. How else would one go about figuring out which wheel lock(s) fits? Are you recommending that everyone just not even bother with it and get replacement rims so that we don't have to deal with figuring out which lock fits the stockers?
|
^^ Exactly....lol
too much Calculus homework is beating my brain cells |
You know. . . that's actually not such a bad idea. LOL!
|
when the car is new...the rims are hot....sell them to the local Honda/Acura peeps for big bucks......before they get old and common
|
I can't find a good positive, reliable answer.
I'll search more later, it's time for dinner. |

I may pull off one of the lugs tomorrow and look at the rim, if the area is flat in the lug hole, then we should be ok. Maybe the conical portion at the tip is just to help guide it into the hole. Man, that just sounds nasty lol :rofl2: Braden |
Ok, somewhat un-related questions, but then it does refer to the lugs.
I'm probably going to keep the 19" Rays on there for awhile, if I do change them out, it will be one of the last mods. I will end up doing coil overs, intake, exhaust first. Has anyone ever used or considered going with a 5mm or 10mm spacer to get the wheels more flush with the fenderwells? Nothing too drastic, just a small amount. If I do this, will the stock lugs handle a small increase in spacing. Is this just a dumb idea? Thanks! Braden |
I still say oem locks are garbage I see 37 wheels get stolen with them on all the time. Volks,Rays,Kics, Work, Project Mu all those locks are top notch and worth every penny. Trust me I own a g35 and live in new york
|
^^We're not trying to track down OEM locks (at least I'm not).

Oh btw, the lug hole area IS flat. So has long as the hole doesn't taper in (i.e., get narrower), then it shouldn't matter whether the tip is flat vs. conical. But I'll know for sure soon enough! |

All wheel locks can be taken off if the thief wants your wheels. |

^^ wheel locks are there just to make it longer to steel the rims....... just like steering wheel locks..... sometimes it's not worth the time, so they pass

Folks, the McGard 21153 locks I ordered came in, and they fit perfectly. So for those of you trying to figure out what locks fit the 19" stock Rays, this is the part no. you want (if you want McGards, that is).

thanks for tryin those out.. ^

Thanks, much appreciated.

On the Courtesy autoparts website, you can purchase Nissan lugs specific to the 370Z. They fit perfectly on mine with the 19" Rays.
|
Yeah, 4 months after they released the car. Pay attention to the dates on these posts. (i.e., Nissan wasn't selling them at the time of the original discussion.)
|
Hmmm, no kidding. Interestingly, the "Nissan" lugs are actually McGards.
|
are these really the locks to get for the rays?

Check your Nuts!
I'm not a fan of cheap locking nuts either and when I discovered my dealer had put them on my car, I contacted him to secure the original nuts which were not left with the car at delivery.. Today I went to do the swap...Yikes, What a surprise! I don't think the dealer realizes he is converting 5 lug wheels to 4 lug by using these incorrect "Locks". I'll be sure to let him know.... http://images44.fotki.com/v1487/phot...MG_1429-vi.jpg |

I called up my dealer again because they charged me for wheel locks that they never installed in the first place and they still have the wrong wheel locks.
I guess in a way even if they're screwing their customers out of $159, at least they're not putting the customers lives in danger by installing them. |

All the after market wheel locks I've seen have a smaller diameter shank than the stock lug nuts. This means only 4 of the wheel studs are being used to accelerate or brake instead of all 5. The locking lug nut with the smaller diameter shank is only working to keep the wheel attached to the hub, helping with cornering loads, but not starting or stopping.
|
So bottom line, is there an aftermarket company that makes compatible locks for the 19" Rays?? (e.g. Volk, Rays, etc) Aside from McGard of course :roflpuke2::ughdance:
