A052 medium compound vs ad09

Hi guys,
Would like your feedback on these tyres.
Running rays 19x10 square.

265/40r19 a052 27.4" height.
Vs
275/35r19 AD09 26.6" height

Is there any pros and cons running a taller tire height to what's recommend by factory OEM?

Cheers

Nope......long as you stay within 3% difference in height between front and rear.

from a design point and generally speaking, taller tires would have a longer center contact shape that would help with forward traction.

not that its a huge difference but tire diameter also affects final drive gear ratio. can't really say if its a pro or con for this, just depends on the intended goal.

265/40R19 with a 3.69 rear gives you a new ratio of 3.59 from plug-&-chug calculator ( https://tiresize.com/gear-ratio-calculator ). not really any difference that changes anything but is an affect of using different tire diameter.

go for it if you need a taller tire for clearance or if you just like the look. and as Rusty mentioned, make sure it matches the front to be within 3%.

You're also comparing two tires that are designed different purposes. Both are 200TW but A052's will be a quicker tire that'll also wear faster. AD09's are advertised as a street tire that'll take track abuse.

If you're primarily street driving your car, go for the AD09. If you're primarily track driving your car and need one of the quickest 200TW's on the market that won't last very long, go for the A052.

You wanna go fast for one lap and don’t care about swapping tires soon after?
Get the A052

You wanna go fast, but not as fast, for multiple laps and events?
AD09

Not to high jack the thread but anyone compared the ad09 vs re71rs? Looking to stay stock 19” for now as I don’t have space for two sets of wheels and not my daily anymore but don’t want the tires to be gone by the time I drive to button willow or thunder hill from the Bay Area etc…. Was looking at a052 as well but no stock sizes, so far only options I’ve found are cup 2, re71rs and ad09.

RE71s are in the same category as the AO52… “super 200tw”. If you want some amount of longevity, especially if you’re driving on the street a bunch too, go for an endurance 200TW like ad09, RS4, ECF, etc

Ok sounds I need to think about how much street driving I plan to do anymore. The ad09 seem to get some mixed comments so a bit hesitant there. Supposedly they ride extremely harsh compared to the re71rs and a052 which still ride great on street which is surprising since the re71rs and a052 are supposed to be the stiffer casing track tire.

A good reference for you. This guy got ~6k miles, 5 autox, 3 track days, 1 drift day, and some burnouts out of his AD09s. I assume if you aren’t drifting and doing burnouts, you’d get closer to 10k miles no problem.

Presumably A052s and RE71s wouldn’t last as long. On the other end of the spectrum, a set of PS4S or other high performance summer tire (NOT a 200TW track tire) would get you more mileage on the street at the expense of grip/life on track.

Cool I think that’s the info I needed. I think I’ll be just fine with 10k since I don’t even think I put 3k on it last year or this year. Been using conti extreme contact and they’ve been great on mileage and ok on track but definitely get overheated so it’s time to look at stepping up without killing the ability for some street use.
