new rear tires slip then grab slip then grab on hard turns
 

2014 370z coupe with sport package 6 speed stock. Replaced all 4 bald pirelli stock tires with continental extreme contact dws06 yesterday. on full throttle right and left turns the rear new tires slip then grab slip then grab during turn and stop when car straightens out. didn't do it when the bald tires were on. any ideas are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

Everyone I know that had Pirelli tires they were bald or below 4/32” tread depth funny. Congratulations on your new tires those Continental’s are nice tires and have good grip on the street in turns I know people how got these tires and were happy with them. If you are a corner carver like me I understand. Best thing to consider would be a differential honestly that will help lots with traction and avoiding one wheel peel. Also begin to address your suspension as well. Depends how do you use your Z do you ever see any track days? How do you like the Continental’s compared to the Pirelli’s when they were new?

I recently purchased new Yokohama Advan A052’s all around they have superior dry traction and can work good in wet conditions as well. I looked at the Continental’s but choose to go with the Yokohama’s as I had really good luck with them in the past.

Sounds to me like traction control is kicking in. Disable TC (you have to disable yaw sensor) and see if you like it.

The stock VLSD is a funny beast. It's got some strange manners.

Maybe they are covered in that oily substance they put on new rubber when they store it maintenance so until it wears off they might slip

I know motorcycles tires have that oily residue on them when new I guess it might be the same case with certain new car tires

It's called mold release. It's to keep the tire from sticking in the mold when the tires are made. It's not for storage.

word is they are covered with a glazing when new, takes 50-100 miles to wear it off then they stick like glue. as far as comparison to the pirellis- softer ride, good response, not that noisy. will keep you posted, thanks.

believe I've put over 100 miles on the tires and they're still doing it. I bought the car used with 19k on it so I don't know how the stock pirelli's were new. car has 24k on it now. thing is it did not do it with the bald pirelli's on it, why would it do it with new sticky tires on it? don't think it's the differential because it just started doing it when the new tires were put on, never did it before. as far as traction control it does appear to be kicking in to correct wheel spin, again if anything the bald tires would have spun but they didn't. any ideas?

You didn't mention the temperature when you were doing this. If the Contis are like my Hankooks, they don't like temps in the 30s and 40s...

Being born and raised in northern NJ, I’m guessing it’s the potholes you’re trying to dodge.

But seriously, it sounds like you have the traction control on. Shut it off, go to an empty parking lot and light them puppies up a couple of times.

That’ll burn any “impurities” off and you’ll have a blast at the same time.

PS: be thankful your not on an 800Lb Harley. That’ll make you “pucker” for sure.
