Nice nail in my tire. Had it fixed. Am I good?

6k on the car, I had the nail patched at Goodyear. They seemed to do a good job, they removed the tire put some kind of rubber glue compound on the inside, etc.....

Am I good to go?
No need to replace the tire for the life of it right?

Red370 01-07-2010 06:55 PM

yeah, the tire should be good until your next set.

cab83_750 01-07-2010 08:33 PM

Agree. As long as it is not a 'slice' and just a nail, I would be comfortable with an 'inside patch.'

Island_370 01-07-2010 09:33 PM

If a professional shop patched it, then you will be fine. Patches installed with the tire off the wheel are very good.

I had three tires on prior cars get patched inside and no problem.

Depends, where was the nail? On the tread, the sidewall, or in between?

^ very important

:iagree:

It was in between the tread.

Trips 01-12-2010 06:00 PM

your good! as long as it's not on the sidewall

MC 01-12-2010 06:30 PM

yeah your good ive had 6 nails in 2 sets of my tires tires in 18 months all the fixes held up longer than the actual tire

got a plug in the front right now, after one autocross its smoothed down where you can even tell its plugged anymore.....

Auston 01-12-2010 10:44 PM

Well, the nail can not be on the sidewall or in border between the sidewall and the
tread. If it's in the middle of the tread, I see no red flag

If its the first patch on the tire then it shouldn't be a problem. I was told at discount tire that they would not patch a second hole in the same tire for Z rated tires. This was when I had my 350Z and was running Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position tires. They were worried the tire would come apart at high speeds. Something to think about...

Patches are good, just knock your limits down a notch or two to be sure/safe. 6K on our tires is about half done.

Plugs are ok until you can get a patch. That said, I've had tires plugged a lot over the years, but none of them were performance cars.

You can get them to patch it if you push them. I had a tire shop refuse to plug a tire because the tread was "too close to the wear indicators", not because it was actually worn out.

I raised all kinds of hell with them, and they wouldn't budge...obviously, they wanted me to buy new tires from them...

They'd already pulled the nail out, and I told them to put the nail back in so I can go to another tire shop and have it fixed. They plugged it instead.

With Z rated tires - I would simply tell them...where the hell can I go over 100mph? Patch the damn tire!
