Problems keeping TPS sensors on the bands for aftermarket wheels.

I am having a heck of a time keep my TPS sensors on the bands. The bands keep breaking off where the TPS mounts. This is becoming one big pain in the butt. Anybody had the same issues? I just about ready to deal with the TPMS light. I have a tire gauge. LOL

370zBLAST 08-21-2018 06:55 PM

Band? Should just be an actual sensor

Before I dealt with a light, I'd try something like this.

They make TPMS in all sorts of designs, even regular rubber pull through designs. That's what I'm using on my Winter wheels. Not sure what you're dealing with on your wheels that made you go with bands, but not many OEMs other than a few Fords used them that I know of. You may be figuring out why its not a common solution.

I have aftermarket wheels and tpms sensor and my z is fine.

This is what I'm using.

Steelmate, Steelmate Australia & NZ- TPMS, Parking Sensor Specialist, Promata Ph-01, Promata Phone holder

OptionZero 08-21-2018 08:44 PM

didn't you get Works?

how are you not able to run regular TPMS?

Spooler 08-21-2018 09:16 PM

I have SSR MS3 wheels. They are not drilled for the TPS sensor, hence why I am using the bands. For you guys that don't know what I am talking about, they are bands that wrap around the inside of the wheel where you mount the TPS sensors.

Like this.

I used the bands to install the oem tpms in the Work wheels with no issue at all. I don't have any installation detail. The tire shop did the install.

Well I guess they don't like do 90+ steady. LOL

OptionZero 08-22-2018 12:33 AM

That's a pretty massive oversight from SSR. 2018 and selling wheels that can't fit to Tpms?

LennyK 08-22-2018 08:06 AM

Soooooo The Question Is - Can This Be Turned Off Or Reset DIY?

I Put On 19" Rims And Am Also Dealing With This Light

Tire Guy Said He Can Fix It - Didn't Go There Yet

Dealer Said He Can Fix It - Won't Go There...

Is It Easy To Reset If You Have The "Programmer":icon14:

I don't think it is massive oversight, annoyance Yes. Besides, our TPMS system is just an annoyance anyway. It's not like we can see what the pressure is in each wheel. So it is a government mandate I can actually do without.

Those look like worm-gear clamps to me. Is it possible that they were over-tightened during original installation?

I can't imagine why Nissan left TPS out of the info display; especially on a car billed as a sports car. The data is already there and programming the display for four more variables shouldn't be that difficult.

IIRC, all four pressures are available in the ECM (or BCM) - you just need an OBD/CAN reader that will access them.

Spooler 08-22-2018 01:21 PM

The mount that holds the TPMS is what is breaking. Not the worm clamp.

nis350 08-22-2018 10:28 PM

perhaps you can try the better quality bands. the sensor is so light and don't see why it keep coming off.

I have mine for almost 4 years and have driven the car at 90 without any issues.

Noop, If I can't find a solution I am pulling all this off.

LennyK 08-23-2018 01:47 PM

Yeah - I Am Frustrated Too...
Put New 19" Rims On With Reconditioned TPMS Sensors
My Tire Guy "Read" Each Sensor Before Mounting Tires
He Kept Track Of Lft-Frnt, Rt Frnt, Rt Rr, Lft Rr While Installing
Idiot Light Still Came On...
Went To Local "Stealer" To Reprogram - He Said He Can / NP
They Couldn't Read Rt Rr
Went To Tire Guy Next - He Said He Can / NP
He Couldn't Read Lft Frt
All The Rest Were Readable ??? WTF
At Least The Dash Light Is TINY:excited:

Makes Me Wonder If Any One Knows How To Do This "Easy Fix"
I Am Thinking About Trying The Paper Clip DIY Next

nis350 08-23-2018 08:54 PM

your reconditioned sensors may not be compatible with the TPMS or the batteries in them are weak.

There are at least two OEM versions AFAIK.

These TPMS were OEM NISSAN parts - Reconditioned / Tested / Certified
And All 4 Tested Good By My Tire Guy While He Was Installing Them
Could It Be The Readers

Ok... so to play dumb, do you remember the model numbers of the sensors you have?

Also, if at first all four sensors were good, now one place isn't able to read one and another place isn't able to read a different sensor, I'd place the blame on either the sensors (or the operators).

I recommend something like this:

Alternatively you could remove the dash cluster and disconnect the led on the circuit board :twocents:

Yea - 3rd Attempt At Different "Stealer"
He Confirms Same As Other "Stealer"
Front Left Signal Is Weak - The Light WILL Stay ON
Sooo I "Renamed" This Idiot Light To
Be Careful - Nice Rims Installed

Installing my esr, i bought 4 brand new napa sensors, had to program the sensor, then i programed the sensor to the car. I did the paper clip method and it worked like a charm.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8718887561.jpg

I Contacted The Online Retailer Of The TPMS With A 60 Day Warranty I Will Try For A Replacement And Make It A Winter Project

Gonna Ignore It And Enjoy The Ride For Now :eekdance:

Spooler 09-25-2018 12:48 PM

Finally got around to having the TPMS sensor looked at. The TPS sensor actually broke apart. LOL. I don't drive that hard but I have skills
in breaking these dang things.
