Nail in tire

So here's my predicament, one of my rear tires has a nail in the sidewall and cannot be repaired, however, all of my tires still have a pretty healthy amount of life in them (8/32"). Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand having rear tires with different tread depths can cause some excess wear/heat on the differential. Normally I would just replace both my rear tires and call it a day, however I've been wanting to try a different tire as I'm not really happy with my current tires in the wet (Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S). So the way I see it is I have a few options:

1) Replace both rear tires for ~$500 and prolong dealing with the tires being **** in the wet.

or

2) Replace all my tires for ~$1,000 (would be trying the Pilot Sport A/S 3+).

The a/s 3+ is a great tire id highly recommend it. Personally I’d say just swap out the rears for now because you can always change the fronts later on if you’re not happy with their performance.

Thanks for the opinion, but there is a variety of reasons that I'm not going to bother getting into as to why I don't run a summer tire (currently).

I would definitely replace all four tires with Michelin Pilot Supersports.

If we were talking about the average sedan, I'd say go ahead and replace just the rears until you can get the fronts. For a car known for good handling, I'd bite the bullet and get all four at once. YMMV

If you just putt around, just replace that one tire. It won't destroy the rear end. The VLSD sucks anyway unless you have already upgraded it.

I doubt that it would be an issue with one 10/32 and one 8/32" rear tire under normal driving condition. I suspect that it would be worse if you're off a few psi of air relatively speaking.

Well, I went up to Les Schwab today and to order the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires from them and install would cost just over $1,400. At that cost I'm now considering just spending an extra couple hundred and buying a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires and keeping my current set of yokohama a/s for the winter (replacing only the one tire with the nail in it). My reasoning for avoiding summer tires in the past is because I live in the pacific northwest where it's often cold and near freezing, making the summer tires useless and or dangerous, however I think as long as I have a set of a/s tires I can make it work.

Replace the one tire. That difference of a few 32nd's won't cause any issue with your diff, unless you think mass produced tires are made to a hundredth of an inch tolerance.

That little bit of difference is not going to make a difference. You won't feel it, and the car won't feel it. Get one tire and save yourself some money.
