Bridgestone Potenza S001 vs Potenza S04

I bought my Nismo with the Potenza S001s, but now it's time for a new set.
The S04s are only $245each for the rears(compared to $418each for the S001s).
I go to the drag strip maybe once a month for fun, so I don't need anything too crazy.

Does anyone have experience with the S04s, or able to compare them to the S001s?

No experience with S0001 but the S04 were seriously good.

I am currently running Michelin PS4s and the S04 were not much worse.

Lot's of great reviews for the new Michelin PS4S tires. It look's like it will be the go-to tire for performance cars.

You can pick up a set of the new Continental Extremecontact Sports for less than a grand. Publications are saying they have at least the dry grip of the PSS and wet, noise, wear levels exceeding them. If that's true, then it's a great alternative to the PS4's. At least till someone does a head to head review.

The compound of the S-04 is slightly better than the S001, that's the major difference between the two. Tread looks the same.

The PSS have been replaced by the PS4S which trounces the PSS and all the competitors in all catagories. The only negative of the PS4S is their higher price. HUGE plus is performance and they are made in the USA, unlike the Continentals which are manufactured in the Czech Republic. The Conis are a good alternative though.

I have the S04 Pole Positions currently and can honestly say they are the best tire on the Z that I have used(3 different tires plus stocks). Great grip, quiet and comfy but can't comment on life as I only have maybe 1,000 miles on them.

Trounce is a strong word lol. Continental manufactures the ECS in quite a few European countries, depending on sizes. Michelin is US and France. Maybe it's a concern for some.

At $248 for a 285/35/19, and weighing 27lbs, the ECS's are a steal in comparison.

The Michelin's for the same size are $85 more.

Their 265/35/19 is $270 vs $248 and 305's are $366 compared to $287.

Even if the PS4's do rate higher (no direct comparison yet), the expected results are so close to one another that, the only other metric is price and tread design. As an every day summer tire, it's hard to go wrong with either one.

They did look the same. That why I don't understand why the S04 is so much cheaper

i love my S04 pole tires best tire for the price imo so far. They track great in the wet & dry. i just order another set after i got about 15k out of them.

The only reason why i went with the Ps4s is because my s04 were 1600 and the Michelin were 1800.

I was very happy with them. They only lasted me 30k km though. Like i could still drive on them but the grip was no longer there, i was slipping making small right turns.

I have one track day and probably 5-7k mi on my s04. They have been a great tire and got them for a great price when they were on sale. Will most likely do again or the contis depending on pricing when these are worn, mich is just too rich for my ability.

The s001 is same tread but I believe it's their new lighter casing and softer compound, so same great wet control, noise level etc just higher performance at the cost of durability putting it more in line of the re11.

I've run S04s for the last year and a half and I love 'em. For the money, they're hard to beat.

:iagree: I run them too.

For me on tirerack S04's are ~$1012 before tax/shipping and PSS's are ~$1175. Difference of $163. I'm still on the fence as I've read that the S04's have a harder sidewall, which I like. I probably won't feel the difference since I don't plan on tracking my car anyway though. Just canyon running and DD.

Hmm that's a lot closer then when I had to decide. I've never used the Michelin so I can't compare the only thing I can say I've heard is the s04 hold their grip more consistently through their lifespan. Again I can not confirm this it is just something I have heard from users that have used both, the mich are grippier when new but after two to three track days the grip drops off whereas the s04 stays more consistent. I'm looking into track day two soon and it's been some mi between so I guess I'll have a better idea how they age fairly soon. I don't think you'll be unhappy with either though.
