Depends on what the warranty covers but it's probably not worth it. If the tire is going to fail due to defect, it will probably do so within the first 1000 miles or so and be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. You can probably get towing added to your vehicle insurance for less. Most tire warranties are prorated so the longer you drive the tire the less the warranty pays.

I think he's talking about the road hazard coverage one can buy. If you're prone to getting many flats, non repairable cuts, etc, or drive in hazardous construction zones, maybe. I've always passed on these.

I would say that im not prone to flats, but with my luck the next week something like that could happen lol. (knocks on wood) I've been seeing people saying buy and people saying don't. Just wanted some opinions from the people on here.

In my experience, any point-of-sale add-ons are either worthless or can be obtained cheaper elsewhere.

I bought an extended warranty on the car - mainly because of CSC failures, rear diff bushing failures, and anything else mechanical that might fail in the next 7 years. It was cheap insurance.
For tires, it's only worth it if it brings you peace of mind.

Complete waste of money until that one time you get a new set of tires and pick up a nail in the sidewall withing the first week of having them. Then you wish you had it.
Luckily when that happened to me, the guy at my local Discount Tire sold me the warranty after the fact and just back dated the paperwork as needed. As a result he saved me a few hundred dollars and gained a long term customer. Since then I've always bought the warranty even though I haven't had an issue since.

Tire warranties are not worth it IMHO. Realistically a tire warranty's only value is for tire replacement if there is damage to the sidewall. Also appreciate that they may deduct any payout based on the mileage of the tire.
Also the manufacturer mileage warranties on tires is a joke. Because you do not rotate the tires on a Z, the manufacturers automatically cut the warranted mileage in 1/2. Thus, that 30,000 mileage warranty is really only 15,000 miles, and if you do make a claim, the manufacturer will pro rata any payout based on the mileage of the tire. Consequently, you might get a $20 rebate per tire. Frankly, I find that it's not worth the trouble making a warranty claim, and your better off shopping the manufacturers' specials. Just my two cents. |

Check the back side of your Discount Tire paper work. For Discount Tire, there are two types of warranty:
The Certificate for Repair, Refund or Replacement = cost $, but will replace or refund in full The Limited Warranties = free, but only refund $ on a pro rata basis. I got a pro rata refund on my 2 yrs old 6/32 RE-11 when my sidewall was ripped from sharp concrete.

If you have tires like I do for my truck that are E or G rated and they stay on the vehicle for a long time with lots of miles then it makes since to get the road hazard warranty. Our cars tires are are soft and I do not deem it as a benefit.
