Best front tire width to match a 305 rear?
 

I'm set on going with a 305/30/19 tire in back to go with my 10.5 rims, but I can't decide which front width I should go with on my 9.5 rim.

I see some people running a 265/305 combo while others run a 275/305

I also read that it's best to keep a close distance between the sizes, making the 275/305 combo the best option.

What are you guys opinions on either combination.

I always base my wheels off of measurements. In your case, since the difference is the same (9.5 & 10.5 vs a 10 & 11) I'd go with a 275/305 combo as the difference of 1" is 25mm so you could shoot for the 30mm (275 vs 305) which is pretty much spot on, or you could go 40mm (265 vs 305). However, they both end up looking right about the same once you consider the 35mm aspect ratio (my verbage could be a bit off as I've been drinking the past few hours).

In the end, it's really a toss up and you can't go wrong with either.

I am planning on adding 305's to the rear as well. I think I will go with either the 255 or 265 up front.

I wouldn't do anything less than 275s if you care about how the car handles. I have 265s front 295s rear and my car understeers at the limit

Yeah I'm leaning more towards the 275 up front as handling is what I'm after. Why did you go 265 originally tho?

i dont see FI in da sig.. why use such huge tires on an NA Z? hardly enough power to use the 305's entirely. get a grippier tire set like RE11's and run nismo size.

Do you think it's overkill to go with this setup then? With it be hurting me more than helping me? What would be a more appropriate size?

I think u want some level of wiggly butt on a RWD to keep the drive entertaining. It defeats the purpose of owning a RWD if I can't drift on demand at times coming out of a turn. Also wide front tires will increase tram lining which da car has even with nismo wheels and tires.

Same reason why true Miata and BRZ owners don't opt for wide tires to keep the drive entertaining.

its pretty laughable to think that 10mm of tire width is going to drastically change the driving dynamics of a car thats used to bum around public roads for 90%-100% of the time. And 10mm one way or the other isn't gonna prevent him from "drifting on demand", since at that point its largely up to the driver driving the car

get what fits on your wheels and looks good that fits your budget

if ur ever gonna push the car to the limits, ur gonna have a second set of light weight 18's with grippy tires anyways

Well technically I'll be a 30mm difference from stock to the sizes I'd like to run.

Not that I ever tried to drift with my RE-11 305s but when the road was wet, they could be wiggly. I am changing to Michelin PSS for the next pair.

Run the 265's. The 275's are too tall.
