Default TPMS Question...

As some of you may know, I bought a set of Nismo wheels for my Z a short while back. I think they were off of a 2012 or early 2013, and of course, Nissan decided to change up stuff in the ECU on later 2013 through 2017 cars, so those older pressure sensors would no longer communicate with the newer ECU's.

So for the past few months, I've been driving around with that TPMS light on on the dash. Kind of annoying at first, but then I kind of just ignored it.

Well, just a few weeks ago, I finally finished up my exhaust and finished doing the rest of the EcuTek tuning on my car. Ever since I started the tuning, I noticed that the TPMS light is no longer on.

Since Sebastian at Specialty Z is the one I've been doing the tuning with, I asked him if his tunes had anything to do with that light going out, and he said that the tunes had absolutely nothing to do with it.

So my question is... With all of the multiple ECU resets and flashes that were done, is it possible that because the ECU doesn't see those sensors it simply shut off the TPMS feature by itself, or has it somehow started communicating with the sensors, causing the light to go off?

I guess I could do the easy test and just let a bunch of air out of one of the tires and see if the light comes on. LOL

At any rate, I'm happy that the darn light if off.

This is why I just bit the bullet and had a set of TPMS sensors cloned for the 350Z wheels I bought for my snow tires. Then the system works as normal, and the car has no idea which set of wheels I have on the car.

The shop just read the sensors in my factory wheels with the wheels on the car. No need to break them down.

So, in other words, no answer for my questions...

Maybe you got lucky or the sensors finally decided to sync up. You could have had one that was acting up and eventually decided to work. Hard to say for sure. I am not a big fan of the sensors at all having dealt with quite a few different setups at my shop. Expensive to replace and program, make mounting and demounting tires a pain, and they are silver. When I go to the dealer for an alignment I am going to ask about having the system turned off completely.

Subbed to see if anyone comes up with an answer.

Since you have the wrong sensors for the car, I don't believe that TPMS has just suddenly started working.

I can't imagine that resetting the system would do anything - if the sensors don't match the rest of the system, resetting won't change that.

Flashing could disable TPMS, but I'm assuming that Sebastian knows if his product would have any effect or not.

Warning lamp could be burnt out but that's low on my list.
