Stock Tire Performance?
Hey guys. This is a question probably more for the north east coast folks. I recently changed my tires to all-season. I purchased the Continental DWS 06 with new wheels. My original plan was to keep the stock tires for summer but two things is making me doubting myself: 1) After the hassle of getting those tires home (my car plus my cousin’s coupe) from the shop it’s not an experience I want to go through with him again. I feel like I’m bothering him. 2) I had the shop transfer my TPMS because I didn’t want to buy new ones. Due to this, the mounting is not simply switching tires. And after seeing thread here on how to do it I don't think I can do this myself or want to take the chance.
So the question is does the stock tire really make a difference at this point or my all-season will be just fine during summer? We barely get snow now but I got the DWS just in case. |

Depends on your needs - mainly how you drive. The stock tire is going to hold the road much better during summer spirited driving than those all-seasons. But the stock tires aren't the greatest performance tires. There are lots of better options out there.
If you don't do any serious driving, then those all-seasons will be fine during the summer. But if you do serious driving, then all-seasons aren't going to cut it.

My biggest beef with the stock tires when I got mine (asides from the itty bitty size) was the road noise. They weren't stellar performers though I didn't expect them to be. If it's just for normalish cruising then they are fine and will serve you well. Heck I sold mine to a guy who was just going to replace his stockers with them.
You're right to change them to those contis though, whether they are good performers or not they are still a summer rated tire, and those tend to get really hard with cooler weather and you'll slide all over on cold roads, never mind a bit of snow. |

Yes i don't do any serious driving (if you mean racing and all). ChaseZ how much you sold yours? I'm trying to see what I can sell them for since they're like-new but online I'm seeing folks selling them after many miles of driving.

I understand it is a different car completely but I put those Conti DWS on my Juke nismo AWD. I would buy them again but can definitely feel a difference in the summer compared to the summer only tires that was on it from factory. Just squishier but still grips good.

Dedicated wheels/tires is the way to go with winter tires. I go through this ritual twice a year - march and december (late nov sometimes) typically. A floor jack is really all that's needed as the car is not lifted for any extended period of time.
My winter wheels have standard rubber valve stems. The amber TPMS light comes on (g37), but that's about it. No driveability issues. It wasn't worth it for me to clone or pay for additional tpms. I check my tires every few weeks anyways.
